Day 10 - 14 May 2021 - The hot phase begins​

The last five days of this year's Pentathlon have started, and with them the days of decision; beginning with today's fourth attempt at Javelin Throw, to be continued with the start of the Sprint tomorrow. This requires a lot of tactical skill of the teams. Do they want to, or have to, additionally use the fifth day of Javelin, or will they tackle the Sprint foremost?

At least the Javelin statistics are clearing up already:

P3D brought the golden javelin to the fourth attempt and threw far beyond the field. Thus the Green Planet cannot be displaced from #1 anymore and may omit the next attempt, which could be worth the figurative gold during the final fight in Marathon and Sprint.

SG are in #2 now and are going at it with full force again today, whereas TAAT (#3) apparently take a day off. As to whether or not they will throw once more at all is hard to tell, as they are playing their cards close to their chest. SG will likely confirm their best throw so far, and since the Germans will probably have to throw one more time, it could actually make sense to TAAT to accept Iron in the end.

After all, it should be safe to say that TSBT (#4) will overtake still. But their throw is lacklustre so far. RKN are currently in #5, in front of CNT (#6), who are fully in for it too today. Both teams delivered three good throws now but are under pressure. Because LTT (#7) made two very good and one good throw and could attack the duo with another very good throw.

We find AF in #8, who really should keep an eye on 2ch (#8). The Japanese are menacingly close. Chinese Dream catapulted themselves to #10. Afterwards, BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#11) may probably afford to forego another attempt but have to expect [H] (#12) to pass them. The Ukraine worked their way up too, now in #13. But ISWT (#14) and EVGA (#15) seem to skip today, in order to overtake by means of the final throw.

OCN (#16) might be content with their situation, they don't have much to lose. Although Team China could still pose a threat, they would have to increase their efforts today and on the last day significantly in order to do so. AMD Users (#18) and BOINC.Italy (#19) are following, engaged in a hot duel. Let's see who will throw further in the end. BOINC@Poland (#20) apparently don't want to risk anything today, and it is possible that this will apply to their fifth throw as well. But BOINCstats (#21) could pass them then. Next up, UBT could still lose #22 to Meisterkühler (#23). The Cool ones are skipping today and are probably betting everything on the final throw. Which could bring them into #16 in the end.

Crystal Dream could improve yet too, so long as they hit once more. While Russia abide in #25, LITOMYSL (#26) are saving strength for the final attempt. And this one could very well carry them among the top 15. At the end of the field, Pfalz (#27) lug the taillight.

Cross Country (Einstein@Home)
The decisive last leg has begun. P3D are clearly leading ahead of TAAT who are able to increase their advantage over TSBT (#3) steadily. The Scots on the other hand can increase their lead over BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#4). SG in behind accelerated, conquered #5, and will put everything in motion to catch up with the Australians. [H] (#6) are somewhat losing ground but should be kept under watch. They too could still join in on the fight for #4 or better.

OCN are still holding #7, but RKN (#8) and LTT (#9) are closing in with swift strides. The advantage still looks comfortable, but many have been caught cold in the end spurt. CNT keeps running on merely in #10, followed by AF (#11). The way to the top is now awfully far for these two traditional teams, but at least there is no threat from behind.

For that, BOINC@Poland (#12), Ukraine (#13), and EVGA (#14) are simply too slow. UBT snagged #15, past ISWT (#16) who remain knocked out. EVGA are now the next target in reach of UBT. And ISWT might even fall victim to BOINC.Italy (#17).

But this should be the end of ISWT's downward trend, because Chinese Dream (#18), Team China (#19), LITOMYSL (#20), 2ch (#21), and Crystal Dream (#22) are quite far away, even though they are considerably quicker. AMD Users try everything to defend #23 against the charging BOINCstats, who themselves could lose #24 to Meisterkühler (#25) who are stepping on the pedal right now. At the end, Pfalz just opened another exquisite vintage and pushed to #26 past Russia (#27).

I am omitting the Marathon today. On the one hand there is not a lot to report there, on the other hand more has happened in the overall standings:

P3D moved to the top and ended TAAT's dream for now. But not everything is definite yet, although TAAT (#2) have to expect point losses at Javelin, which could bring the Silver medal into reach of TSBT (#3).

SG (#4) on the other hand would need a lot of luck to make it to precious metal. But at least they are holding the competitors at a distance. CNT (#5) are already at a considerable deficit and even need to take care not to get overpowered by RKN (#6). LTT (#7) and [H] (#8) are not far away either and could cause a stir yet. While AF are securing #9, BOINC@AUSTRALIA backed down to #10, which is an excellent rank however. Chances are that the Australians will make this one their best Pentathlon yet. OCN (#11), ISWT (#12), and 2ch (#13) could still change that in principle, but the distance is comfortable and the remaining time short.

Ukraine are now in #14 due to the Javelin and thereby overtook EVGA (#15). BOINC.Italy, now in #16, are finding themselves in no man's land; their lead over BOINC@Poland (#17), UBT (#18), AMD Users (#19), and Chinese Dream (#20) won't be overcome easily. Besides, the members of this quartet are separated from each other by a mere four points, which should keep them occupied with themselves for the time being.

Crystal Dream (#21), Team China (#22), LITOMYSL (#23), and BOINCstats (#24) are following and busy on their own. Meisterkühler (#25) just caught up with the Statisticians and are flashing the indicator light. BOINC@Pfalz secured #26 ahead of Russia.

And again we have questions, nothing but questions:

- Who is to be the quickest out of the starting blocks at the Sprint?
- Will TAAT attack once more at the Javelin?
- Who will take Bronze in Cross Country?

You see it remains exciting at the BOINC Pentathlon.

Tag 10 - 14.05.2021 - Die heiße Phase beginnt​

Die letzten fünf Tage des diesjährigen BOINC Pentathlon sind angebrochen und damit die Tage der Entscheidung. Angefangen mit dem heutigen vierten Versuch beim Speer, fortgesetzt mit dem Start des Sprints morgen. Dies erfordert von den Teams viel taktisches Geschick. Will oder muss man den fünften Tag beim Speer noch nutzen oder geht man eher den Sprint an?

Zumindest hellt sich bereits die Statistik beim Speer auf:

P3D hat mit dem vierten Versuch den goldenen Speer ausgepackt und über das Feld hinausgeworfen. Der Grüne Planet ist somit nicht mehr von #1 zu verdrängen und kann so den nächsten Versuch auslassen, was im Endkampf beim Marathon und Sprint das sprichwörtliche Gold wert sein könnte.

SG liegt derzeit auf #2 und geht heute wieder voll drauf, wogegen TAAT (#3) heute wohl einen Ruhetag einlegt. Damit lassen sie sich auch nicht in die Karten schauen, ob sie überhaupt nochmal voll werfen. SG wird wohl den bisher besten Wurf bestätigen und da die Deutschen wohl auch noch ein weiteres Mal werfen müssen, könnte es für TAAT durchaus sinnvoll sein, dass man akzeptiert, dass am Ende nur Blech steht.

Denn dass TSBT (#4) noch vorbei geht, dürfte sicher sein. Allerdings ist der Wurf bis jetzt noch nichts Halbes und nichts Ganzes. RKN steht aktuell auf #5, vor CNT (#6), die heute auch voll drauf gehen. Beide Teams haben damit drei gute Würfe hingelegt, sind aber unter Druck. Denn LTT (#7) hat zwei sehr gute und einen guten Wurf hingelegt und könnte mit einem weiteren sehr guten Wurf das Duo angreifen.

Auf #8 findet sich AF, die durchaus ein Auge auf 2ch (#9) haben sollten. Die Japaner sind bedrohlich nahe. Auf #10 hat sich Chinese Dream katapultiert. Dahinter wird wohl BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#11) auf einen nächsten Versuch verzichten können, muss aber damit rechnen, dass [H] (#12) noch vorbeigehen wird. Auch die Ukraine hat sich nach vorne gearbeitet, jetzt auf #13. Allerdings scheinen ISWT (#14) und EVGA (#15) heute auszulassen, um mit dem letzten Wurf noch vorbeizugehen.

OCN (#16) könnte sich mit der Situation zufrieden geben, viel zu verlieren hätten sie nicht. Team China könnte zwar noch eine Gefahr darstellen, müsste aber heute und am letzten Tag noch deutlich zulegen. Dahinter folgen die AMD Users (#18) und BOINC.Italy (#19), zwischen denen gerade ein heißes Duell stattfindet. Mal sehen, wer am Ende weiter wirft. BOINC@Poland (#20) scheint heute nichts riskieren zu wollen und es könnte durchaus sein, dass dies auch auf den fünften Wurf zutrifft. Allerdings könnte dann noch BOINCstats (#21) vorbeigehen. Dahinter droht UBT noch #22 an die Meisterkühler (#23) zu verlieren. Die Coolen lassen heute aus und setzen wohl ganz auf den letzten Wurf. Und dieser könnte sie dann noch auf #16 führen.

Auch Crystal Dream könnte sich noch verbessern, vorausgesetzt, man schlägt nochmals zu. Während Russia auf #25 verweilt, spart LITOMYSL (#26) die Kräfte für den letzten Versuch. Und dieser könnten sie durchaus in die Top 15 führen. Die rote Laterne schwenkt am Ende des Feldes die Pfalz (#27).

Querfeldein (Einstein@Home)
Die entscheidende Schlussphase ist hier angebrochen. P3D führt klar vor TAAT, die ihren Vorsprung auf TSBT (#3) stetig ausbauen können. Die Schotten ihrerseits können den Vorsprung auf BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#4) vergrößern. Dahinter hat SG beschleunigt und #5 erobert und wird alles daran setzen die Australier noch einzuholen. [H] (#6) verliert etwas an Boden, sollten wir aber auch nicht unbeobachtet lassen. Auch sie können noch um #4 oder mehr mitkämpfen.

Noch hält OCN #7, doch von hinten nähern sich RKN (#8) und LTT (#9) mit schnellem Schritt. Noch scheint der Vorsprung beruhigend, doch im Schlussspurt ist schon so mancher eiskalt erwischt worden. Nur auf #10 ist weiter CNT unterwegs, gefolgt von AF (#11). Für die beiden Traditionsteams ist der Weg nach vorn schon arg weit, aber zumindest droht wohl von hinten keine Gefahr.

Dafür sind BOINC@Poland (#12), Ukraine (#13) und EVGA (#14) einfach zu langsam. UBT hat sich dahinter #15 geschnappt, vorbei an ISWT (#16), die weiter stehend k. o. sind. Für UBT ist nun EVGA das nächste greifbare Ziel. Und ISWT wird wohl auch noch Opfer von BOINC.Italy (#17) werden.

Das könnte dann für ISWT das Ende des Abwärtstrendes sein, denn Chinese Dream (#18), Team China (#19), LITOMYSL (#20) und 2ch (#21) sowie Crystal Dream (#22) sind recht weit weg, auch wenn sie allesamt deutlich schneller unterwegs sind. Die AMD Users versuchen alles, um #23 vor den heranstürmenden BOINCstats zu sichern, die ihrerseits #24 an die Meisterkühler (#25) verlieren könnten, welche gerade kräftig Gas geben. Am Ende hat gerade die Pfalz einen weitere guten Jahrgang geöffnet und sich auf #26 geschoben, vorbei an Russia (#27).

Den Marathon lasse ich heute mal aus. Einerseits gibt es nicht viel zu berichten, andererseits hat sich in der Gesamtwertung doch einiges getan:

P3D hat sich an die Spitze gesetzt und damit den Traum von TAAT (#2) vorerst beendet. Doch noch ist nicht alles entschieden, allerdings muss TAAT noch mit Punkteverlusten beim Speer rechnen und dies könnte dann TSBT (#3) in Reichweite der Silbermedaille bringen.

Für SG (#4) wird es dagegen nur noch mit viel Glück um Edelmetall gehen. Doch zumindest hält man die Konkurrenz dahinter auf Distanz. CNT (#5) hat schon gehörigen Rückstand und muss sogar aufpassen, nicht von RKN (#6) überrumpelt zu werden. Auch LTT (#7) und [H] (#8) sind nicht weit weg und können noch für Wirbel sorgen. Während AF (#9) sichert, geht es für BOINC@AUSTRALIA zurück auf #10, was dennoch eine hervorragende Platzierung ist. Aktuell stehen die Zeichen gut, dass die Australier ihren bisher besten Pentathlon hinlegen. OCN (#11), ISWT (#12) und 2ch (#13) könnten das zwar noch ändern, aber der Abstand ist komfortabel und die restliche Zeit knapp.

Durch den Speer steht die Ukraine nun auf #14 und hat damit EVGA (#15) überholt. BOINC.Italy, nun auf #16, findet sich nun im Niemandsland wieder, denn der Vorsprung auf BOINC@Poland (#17), UBT (#18), AMD Users (#19) und Chinese Dream (#20) muss auch erstmal eingeholt werden. Dazu kommt, dass dieses Quartett gerade einmal vier Punkte voneinander trennt und eher mit sich selbst beschäftigt ist.

Crystal Dream (#21), Team China (#22), LITOMYSL (#23) und BOINCstats (#24) folgen und sind selbst miteinander beschäftigt. Die Meisterkühler (#25) haben gerade den Anschluss an die Statistiker geschafft und setzen den Blinker. Platz 26 abgesichert hat BOINC@Pfalz vor Russia.

Und weiter haben wir Fragen, nichts als Fragen:

- Wer kommt beim Sprint am besten aus den Startblock?
- Greift TAAT beim Speer nochmal an?
- Wer holt Bronze beim Querfeldein?
