Day 1 05 May 2023 Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!​

Starting today, 30 teams will unleash their machines on the track. Just before the registration deadline, The Scottish Boinc Team (TSBT) and SETI.USA (SUSA) signed up, two teams that had a strong presence in the Pentathlon in the past. This promises very interesting days. How strong are the various teams throughout the competition? Which teams can surprise in the individual disciplines? Who will surprise us positively? Who will shock us negatively? This Pentathlon might be much more balanced than ever before. Therefore, it is all the more important to use and allocate the resources cleverly.

First up is the Obstacle Run, followed by the Javelin Throw and the City Run. But today and tomorrow, we can focus on just one discipline. Enough time to warm up and to prepare tactically for the challenges of the next days.

Obstacle Run (yoyo@home: only subprojects ECM, ECM P2)
Last year's winner TeAm AnandTech (TAAT) makes no big fuss and takes the lead for the time being. [H]ard|OCP ([H]) and Planet 3DNow! (P3D) try to keep up, with the Green Planet slowly closing in on [H].

Behind them, there is already a small gap, with one surprise or the other. LinusTechTips_Team (LTT) in #4 is the first one. BOINC@Poland (B@P, #5) was not necessarily expected this far up the rankings either. But that does not mean anything yet. This Obstacle Run is tougher than any Marathon. The difficulties of the track affect everyone and it remains to be seen who has the best stamina.

SETI.Germany (SG) in #6 are positioned quite well for a traditional slow starter. The Blue and Yellows usually take some time to get up to speed. In #7, we find GPU Users Group (GPUUG), who, as a rookie, are not shy at all. They are followed by Czech National Team (CNT) and Rechenkraft.net (RKN). Both of them could still move up, at least the potential is there.

L'Alliance Francophone (AF) closes the top 10, but are chased by SUSA (#11). Rooster vs. eagle, and maybe even a dragon will join them. George R. R. Martin, please take over! So Team China (TC) find themselves in #12 ahead of Crunching@EVGA (EVGA), while Ukraine in #14 are very close behind.

BOINC.Italy in #15 do not fully exploit their potential yet. But, as we know, a good Pizza Margherita takes its time. The pizza chefs have Overclock.net (OCN) breathing down their necks, who managed to pull away a bit from Chinese Dream (#17). While the AMD Users (#18) are trying to catch up with the dreamers, Russia appear to secure #19.

There does not seem to be any threat from behind anyway. Meisterkuehler.de Team (MK) (#20) just had to let the Russians pass, and while they are still in striking distance, the difference in pace was massive. Behind them, it is also very close. UK BOINC Team (UBT) are in #21, put under pressure by BOINC Confederation (BC).

BOINC Synergy (B^S, #23) have to fend off The Final Front Ear (TFFE, #24). Surprisingly far down the rankings we currently find TSBT, #25 reminds of the years 2016 and before. The Scots should urgently step up their game.

BOINCstats (BS, #26), Crystal Dream (#27), and Team 2ch (2ch, #28) are probably more concerned with the scenery than with the obstacles. But this is still better than the fear of the track that has infected LITOMYSL and The PiGyS (PiGyS). Well, maybe therapy will help them.

All this is just a snapshot, especially in this discipline the saying applies: It ain't over 'til it's over, or, as we say in German, the duck is fat at the rear end. Maybe this also applies to roosters, eagles, or dragons I will better turn away from these delicious heraldic animals now so as to avoid any misunderstandings. One thing is for sure, there will still be some movements in the rankings over the next hours. The performance of some teams is still raising questions, and their competitors will ponder whether this is tactics or weakness. But what would we be without questions:

• Will TAAT continue their winning streak?
• Can LTT retain #4?
• Will TSBT make it out of the whisky cellar and into the light?

30 Teams lassen ab heute ihre Maschinen auf die Strecke los. Kurz vor Ende der Anmeldefrist haben sich mit The Scottish Boinc Team (TSBT) und SETI.USA (SUSA) noch zwei Teams angemeldet, die den Pentathlon in der Vergangenheit stark mitgeprägt haben. Das verspricht sehr interessante Tage. Wie stark sind die verschiedenen Teams im gesamten Wettbewerb? Welche Teams können in den einzelnen Kategorien überraschen? Wer überrascht uns positiv? Wer schockiert uns negativ? Dieser Pentathlon könnte sehr viel ausgewogener werden als je zuvor. Umso wichtiger ist es, die Kräfte clever einzusetzen und einzuteilen.

Zunächst steht nun der Hindernislauf auf dem Programm, gefolgt vom Speerwerfen und dem Stadtlauf. Doch heute und morgen können wir uns auf eine Disziplin konzentrieren. Genug Zeit zum Warmwerden, und um sich taktisch auf die Herausforderungen der nächsten Tagen vorzubereiten.

Hindernislauf (yoyo@home: nur die Subprojekte ECM, ECM P2)
Vorjahressieger TeAm AnandTech (TAAT) macht kein großes Federlesen und setzt sich erstmal an die Spitze. [H]ard|OCP ([H]) und Planet 3DNow! (P3D) versuchen dranzubleiben, wobei der Grüne Planet sich langsam näher an [H] heranläuft.

Danach klafft schon eine kleine Lücke, mit der einen oder anderen Überraschung. LinusTechTips_Team (LTT) auf #4 ist die erste. Auch BOINC@Poland (B@P, #5) war nicht unbedingt so weit vorn zu erwarten. Aber das heißt noch nichts. Dieser Hindernislauf ist härter als jeder Marathon. Die Unbilligkeiten der Strecke setzen jedem zu und es wird sich noch zeigen, wer die beste Ausdauer hat.

SETI.Germany (SG) auf #6 ist für einen traditionell verschlafenen Starter ganz gut positioniert. Die Blaugelben brauchen meist etwas, bis sie auf Touren sind. Auf #7 finden wir die GPU Users Group (GPUUG), die sich als Rookie nicht schüchtern geben. Es folgen das Czech National Team (CNT) und Rechenkraft.net (RKN). Für beide könnte es durchaus noch nach vorne gehen, das Potenzial ist zumindest da.

L'Alliance Francophone (AF) beschließt die Top 10, wird aber von SUSA (#11) verfolgt. Hahn gegen Adler und vielleicht kommt noch ein Drache dazu. George R. R. Martin, bitte übernehmen Sie! Team China (TC) findet sich also auf #12 vor Crunching@EVGA (EVGA), und sehr knapp dahinter die Ukraine auf #14.

BOINC.Italy auf #15 schöpft das eigene Potenzial noch nicht aus. Aber wir wissen ja, eine gute Pizza Margherita braucht auch ihre Zeit. Im Nacken haben die Pizzabäcker Overclock.net (OCN), die sich etwas von Chinese Dream (#17) lösen konnten. Während die AMD Users (#18) versuchen, die Träumer einzuholen, sichert Russia wohl #19 ab.

Es scheint von hinten ja auch keine Gefahr zu drohen. Das Meisterkuehler.de Team (MK) (#20) musste die Russen gerade vorbei lassen und ist noch in Rückschlagdistanz, aber der Tempounterschied ist deutlich gewesen. Auch dahinter geht es hauteng zu. Auf #21 steht das UK BOINC Team (UBT), unter Druck gesetzt von der BOINC Confederation (BC).

BOINC Synergy (B^S, #23) muss sich The Final Front Ear (TFFE, #24) erwehren. Überraschend weit hinten finden wir derzeit TSBT, #25 erinnert an die Jahre 2016 und vorher. Da sollten die Schotten noch dringend nachlegen.

BOINCstats (BS, #26), Crystal Dream (#27) und Team 2ch (2ch, #28) wollen sich wohl mehr mit der Landschaft als mit den Hindernissen beschäftigen. Immerhin besser als die Angst vor der Strecke, die LITOMYSL und The PiGyS (PiGyS) befallen hat. Naja, vielleicht hilft eine Therapie.

Das das alles ist nur ein kurzer Augenblick, gerade in dieser Disziplin gilt: Hinten wird die Ente fett. Trifft vielleicht auch auf Hähne, Adler oder Drachen zu nun wende ich mich lieber von den leckeren Wappentieren ab, nicht dass irgendjemand das missversteht. Eins ist sicher, in den nächsten Stunden wird es noch einige Bewegungen im Klassement geben. Noch geben einige Teams Rätsel auf und die Konkurrenz wird grübeln, ob das Taktik oder Schwäche ist. Aber was wären wir ohne Fragen:

• Setzt TAAT seine Siegesserie fort?
• Kann LTT #4 halten?
• Schafft es TSBT aus dem Whisky-Keller ans Licht?

Ihr seht, es bleibt spannend beim BOINC Pentathlon.
