Day 5 09 May 2023 Target Hit?

After the broken Javelin Throw scoreboard caused confusion yesterday, we can look at the actual numbers today. I will do that in a moment, together with a look at the City Run. The winners and losers of the day in the Obstacle Run are listed at the end. My next look at the overall standings will be only after the third javelin has flown.

Javelin Throw Javelin Throw (SRBase: all subprojects except TF)
The first two throws are finished and present us a differentiated picture. Teams that skipped the first two throws will have to deliver tomorrow. By then, at the latest, we will see the potentials. However, what is already evident now makes us prick up our ears. The third-best throw counts in the end, so the rankings are based on the worst throw for now, which is of course a bit confusing. I will try to unravel this a bit for you now. For now, the current rankings are less important than the throws so far. What have the teams done so far and what does this mean? Who has scored well so far and who needs to step up?

RKN are currently in the lead. Their first throw was already good, but the throw made by the Rechenkrafties yesterday is the second-best throw of the whole competition so far. If they can confirm this twice, it will put the competitors under enormous pressure. Even a medal seems possible here. AF (#2) and BOINC.Italy (#3) probably can only dream of this. Both have had two solid throws and have to do more in the third throw if they want to end up in the top 10. TAAT are currently in #4, but it seems like there is a lot of gambling going on here. Their performance so far does not really pass the smell test, so the truth will be revealed tomorrow.

CNT (#5) have the fourth-best throw so far, but will have to stretch quite a bit if they aim for the podium. Last year, P3D (#6) ended up with silver in Javelin Throw. However, the fact that they have the third-best throw so far raises doubts. There is still time to correct this or to hope for missteps by the competitors.

AMD Users (#7) will certainly move down the rankings, whereas for B@P (#8) this remains to be seen. Their first throw was very good and could point toward a top 10 position. BC (#9) will have to step up a lot from tomorrow, otherwise the elevator will go down to the basement for them. MK (#10) have shown strong capabilities on the first day and took it easy yesterday. This suggests a stronger attempt tomorrow. They were ranked twelfth last year and this could be where they end up this year as well.

For TSBT (#11), tomorrow is the hour of decision. Whether the Scots are unable or unwilling, that is the question here. Only in #12 are SG for now, but they shocked their competitors with a tremendous throw. If SG can confirm this, it looks very good for a medal. Whether it could be a golden one will be clear tomorrow when TAAT puts their cards on the table.

[H] (#13) are also far from where they will end up, as their throw yesterday showed. On the other hand, for TC (#14) the same is true as for TSBT. LTT (#15) emerges as the main competitor for MK, as both teams have thrown similar distances.

Behind them are several teams with similar performances so far: TFFE (#16), Crystal Dream (#17), Russia (#18), and OCN (#19). A bit further behind is BOINCstats (#20). LITOMYSL (#21) seems to be able to control their power very well. Their first throw was very good, whereas even a T-Rex would have thrown farther than their second throw. So they will also move up the rankings later. This also applies to EVGA (#22), even though they will not come close to LITOMYSL.

While B^S (#23) and UBT (#24) are on a similar level, Ukraine (#25) is lying in wait. Yesterday's throw revealed that they are probably aiming to end up in the top 10 rather than being bogged down at the end. SUSA (#26) puzzle us. They will have to improve tomorrow; if not, they will duel with PiGyS (#27). Chinese Dream (#28) at least tried to throw yesterday, whereas 2ch and GPUUG have not even looked at the javelin yet.

City Run City Run (PrimeGrid: only subproject AP 27)
Even though the situation at the top has calmed down a bit, the field is still very restless. Let us see if this continues over the next days. Meanwhile, TAAT have clearly extended their lead and left P3D (#2) behind. GPUUG do not seem to have given up quite yet, but remain in #3 for now. For SG (#4), reaching the podium will be a tough job. Not much is missing, but the gap to GPUUG is growing steadily. And then there are LTT (#5), who are in in the extended slipstream of the Germans.

For [H], #6 seems to be the end of the road. Moving up is going to be tough, and their chasers already appear quite small in the rearview mirror. Here, RKN (#7) are showing again what computing power means. They left TC (#8) and CNT (#9) behind, which is something not everyone can say about themselves. AMD Users in #10, followed by AF (#11), are running rather calmly at the moment. It is closer between OCN (#12) and MK (#13), here it is nose-to-nose. SUSA is watching relaxed from behind and appears to be satisfied with #14.

The Americans can afford that because neither Crystal Dream (#15) nor LITOMYSL (#16) nor TSBT (#17) nor EVGA (#18) put pressure on them. 2ch (#19) could attack EVGA, but they do not. TFFE (#20) and BOINC.Italy (#21) cannot follow, but they are busy with each other anyway. Ukraine (#22) are a bit weak at the moment and have to watch out for Russia (#23). B@P (#24) are also still in the mix.

  • Can RKN really reach for a medal in the Javelin Throw?
  • Will SG go for gold with the javelin?
  • Will P3D still be caught in the City Run?

You see it remains exciting at the BOINC Pentathlon.

Tag 5 09.05.2023 Ziel getroffen?

Und hier zeigt RKN (#7) wieder, was Rechenkraft heißt.
