Day 3 07 May 2024 Where one thing ends, the other begins​

The first decision is made early on. The final hours of the Sprint are underway and the teams are already throwing their first reserves into the balance. In addition, the traditional City Run started today, on a track that was previously unknown to most participants. Terra Incognita. Uncharted territory. The Ramanujan Machine.

These two disciplines are the focus of my thoughts for today. To maximise the suspense for you, I will start with the uncharted territory.

City Run (The Ramanujan Machine on BOINC)
Somehow it is getting difficult to find new words and sentences to express that TAAT has taken the lead. The competition is starting to look a little unnerved and hope that TAAT's motivation is waning. But it is still very close behind them.

SG currently holds onto #2, which is an excellent intermediate result, but GPUUG (#3) and P3D (#4) are only one rotation of a fan behind. As the terrain is still unfamiliar to the teams and also contains one or two surprises, there could still be major shifts here.

Things are also very close between [H] (#5) and Ukraine (#6), with both teams slowly losing contact to the trio ahead of them. But they are still doing enough to keep NoTEAM (#7), SUSA (#8), and AF (#9) in their places.

There is already a significant gap behind them. The imponderables of the track seem to differentiate the field considerably, but on the other hand offer opportunities for courageous teams. SG alone ran a farther distance in the last hour than all teams from #10 onwards combined. LTT (#10), RKN (#11), and CNT (#12) are still fairly evenly matched, followed by LITOMYSL (#13) and MK (#14).

Behind them, the gaps are getting smaller and smaller. BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#15), AMD Users (#16), UBT (#17), TFFE (#18), BOINC.Italy (#19), TC (#20), B^S (#21), and BS (#22) still have every chance of swapping places. While Crunching@EVGA (#23) and OCN (#24) are a little behind, they are not out of the race yet. Another three teams have not started yet, but could achieve much with a lot of heart.

Sprint (NumberFields@home)
The decision in the Sprint is near. It will be hard to steal victory from TAAT, and silver for P3D is also likely. On the other hand, SG (#3) still has to be prepared for attacks from LTT (#4) and [H] (#5). LTT in particular has used the last hours to make up ground.

CNT (#6) has just made a strong spurt, pushing GPUUG into #7. LTT and [H] are well within reach, but the podium seems a long way off. Meanwhile, GPUUG is in danger of being pushed further down the ranking, because NoTEAM (#8) has also switched on the turbo and is closing in fast.

This intermediate spurt has also put a damper on AF (#9) gaining further ground after they had just sprinted past Ukraine (#10). The latter in turn is now in the sights of SUSA, who have moved past BOINC.Italy (#12) and RKN (#13) into #11.

LITOMYSL has slipped to #14 and at their current pace there is an acute threat that TC (#15) will still catch up. Behind them, AMD Users (#16) and BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#17) are taking advantage of the weakness of OCN (#18). The cooling experts are now also looking to coldly benefit from this.

While Crunching@EVGA have made themselves comfortable in #20, Chinese Dream (#21) has to pay the price for their strong start. However, their pace is still sufficient to keep B^S (#22) at bay. B^S also seems to be quite safe on this rank, as BS (#23), UBT (#24), and TFFE (#25) are busy with each other. This part of the ranking is not decided yet.

Marathon (PrimeGrid: only subproject Cullen Prime Search LLR (CUL))

We will find out in the next few days what this means for the overall standings. Particularly the City Run is still very close and will bring us many more changes in the rankings. For now, let us look forward to a great final in the Sprint.

Tag 3 07.05.2024 Wo das Eine endet, beginnt das Andere​

Schon früh fällt die erste Entscheidung. Die letzten Stunden des Sprints laufen und die Teams werfen bereits die ersten aufgesparten Reserven in die Waagschale. Dazu ist heute der traditionelle Stadtlauf gestartet und dies auf einer Strecke, die den meisten Teilnehmern bisher unbekannt war. Terra Incognita. Neuland. The Ramanujan Machine.

Diese beiden Disziplinen stehen heute im Mittelpunkt meiner Betrachtung. Um den Spannungsbogen für Sie so groß wie möglich zu machen, fange ich mit dem Neuland an.

Stadtlauf (The Ramanujan Machine on BOINC)
Irgendwie wird es langsam schwierig neue Wörter und Sätze zu finden, um auszudrücken, dass TAAT sich an die Spitze gesetzt hat. Langsam wird die Konkurrenz etwas entnervt schauen und auf abnehmende Motivation bei TAAT hoffen. Doch dahinter geht es noch sehr knapp zu.

SG hält derzeit #2, was ein hervorragender Zwischenstand ist, allerdings sind die GPUUG (#3) und P3D (#4) nur eine Lüfterdrehung hinten dran. Da das Terrain den Teams noch unbekannt ist und auch die eine oder andere Überraschung enthält, kann es hier noch kräftige Verschiebungen geben.

Hauteng geht es auch zwischen [H] (#5) und Ukraine (#6) zu, wobei beiden Teams langsam den Anschluss an das Trio vor ihnen verlieren. Aber es reicht derzeit noch, um NoTEAM (#7), SUSA (#8) und AF (#9) in die Schranken zu weisen.

Dahinter klafft dann schon eine doch recht große Lücke. Die Unwägbarkeiten der Strecke scheinen das Feld stark zu differenzieren, bieten aber andererseits Chancen für mutige Teams. So hat allein SG in der letzten Stunde mehr Strecke gemacht als alle Teams ab #10 zusammen. LTT (#10), RKN (#11) und CNT (#12) liegen noch recht gleichauf, gefolgt von LITOMYSL (#13) und MK (#14).

Dahinter werden die Abstände immer kleiner. BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#15), AMD Users (#16), UBT (#17), TFFE (#18), BOINC.Italy (#19), TC (#20), B^S (#21) und BS (#22) haben noch alle Chancen, die Plätze zu tauschen. Crunching@EVGA (#23) und OCN (#24) hängen zwar etwas zurück, aber aus dem Rennen sind sie noch nicht. Weitere drei Teams sind noch nicht losgelaufen, könnten aber mit viel Herz viel erreichen.

Sprint (NumberFields@home)
Die Entscheidung beim Sprint ist nah. TAAT wird der Sieg kaum zu nehmen sein, auch Silber für P3D ist wahrscheinlich. Dagegen muss SG (#3) noch auf Attacken von LTT (#4) und [H] (#5) gefasst sein. Gerade LTT hat die letzten Stunden genutzt und Boden gutgemacht.

CNT (#6) hat gerade einen kräftigen Spurt eingelegt und so die GPUUG auf #7 verdrängt. LTT und [H] sind durchaus in Reichweite, das Podium erscheint aber weit weg. Dagegen droht die GPUUG weiter durchgereicht zu werden, denn auch das NoTEAM (#8) hat den Turbo eingeschaltet und nähert sich bedenklich.

Dieser Zwischenspurt hat auch AF (#9) einen Dämpfer verpasst, weiter an Boden zu gewinnen, nachdem sie sich gerade an der Ukraine (#10) vorbeigesprintet haben. Diese wiederum ist nun im Visier von SUSA, die sich vorbei an BOINC.Italy (#12) und RKN (#13) auf #11 gesetzt haben.

LITOMYSL wurde auf #14 durchgereicht und beim aktuellen Tempo besteht die akute Gefahr, dass TC (#15) noch herankommen wird. Dahinter profitieren die AMD Users (#16) und BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#17) von der Schwäche von OCN (#18). Diese wollen jetzt auch noch die Meisterkühler eiskalt ausnutzen.

Während es sich Crunching@EVGA auf #20 gemütlich gemacht hat, muss Chinese Dream (#21) dem starken Beginn Tribut zollen. Noch reicht das Tempo aber aus, um B^S (#22) auf Distanz zu halten. B^S scheint wohl auf dieser Position ebenfalls recht sicher zu sein, da BS (#23), UBT (#24) und TFFE (#25) miteinander beschäftigt sind. Hier sind die Positionen noch nicht ausgemacht.

Was das für die Gesamtwertung für eine Bedeutung hat, werden wir die nächsten Tage ergründen. Gerade der Stadtlauf ist noch sehr eng und wird uns noch viele Veränderungen bringen. Freuen wir uns erstmal auf ein tolles Sprintfinale.
