The 21 teams that are taking on the challenge of this year's Pentathlon have to kick into high gear right away. On the first day, the teams already have to start in two disciplines, so there is no time to waste, but positions. Shortly before the deadline, Team 2ch (2ch) had signed up to compete, showing the big teams from China and America what true courage is.

Today I will focus on the two individual disciplines and tomorrow I will also take a look at the overall standings.

Marathon (World Community Grid: only subproject Mapping Cancer Markers)
TAAT is off to a flying start again and has already taken a clear lead. Full throttle first and then maintain the results, seems to be the motto again this year. LTT (#2) also got off to a great start and thus left their mark. Planet 3DNow! (P3D) is currently ranked third, but will have higher expectations.

SETI.Germany (S⁠G) find themselves in #4 and thus came out of the blocks quite well, as there is already a small gap to 2ch (#5) and [H] (#6). However, the track is still long and the opportunities and risks are high. Ukraine in #7 is struggling to keep up and should not take their eyes off Czech National Team (CNT, #8), who are slowly picking up speed.

In the slipstream of the Czechs, Rechenkraft.net (RKN) is trying to hold on to #9, but this is not so easy. L'Alliance Francophone (AF, #10) and BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#11) are setting a good pace and thus getting closer. The trio is currently closing in on each other and it remains to be seen who will set the tone in this threesome.

AMD Users in #12 cannot keep up with them at the moment, but are extending their lead over their pursuers GPUUG (#13) and Meisterkuehler (MK, #14). However, Crunching@EVGA (EVGA, #15) is currently showing signs of life that should make their competitors prick up their ears.

The gaps here are small and so BOINC.Italy in #16 still has a path forward, although a little more commitment is required. Russia in #17 has been a bit lonely so far, but this is about to change, as NoTEAM (#18) fired up the afterburner and is suddenly looming large in the rearview mirror. LITOMYSL (#19) certainly did not like this maneuver, because being left behind like this is not a pleasant experience. The Final Front Ear (TFFE) can currently secure #20 and prevent BOINC Confederation (BC, #21) from passing on the red lantern.

City Run (MilkyWay@home)
When I think of MilkyWay, three associations always come to my mind. One is impressively beautiful, another is delicious, and the third is crunchy. Let us see how the teams use their resources here, especially in conjunction with the Marathon.

TAAT has pulled away here as well, and will be hard to beat this year. SG appears to be looking to seize the opportunity, currently in #2, ahead of the currently struggling Green Planet P3D. Surely the fertilizer was not applied incorrectly?

Ukraine (#5) got off to a good start also in the City Run, but LTT (#4) just corrected the order. An intermediate spurt brought NoTEAM into #6, but they already seem to have run out of steam now. This is a chance for GPUUG (#7), which they want to take advantage of with a small spurt. BOINC@AUSTRALIA in #8 and CNT (#9) will have to be careful here.

AF just clinched #10, thus relegating LITOMYSL to #11. Here are the closest duels. And that is how we want it, as close battles for position are the cherry on top of the Pentathlon cake.

RKN (#12) definitely needs to add calories, otherwise they will not move up, and 2ch (#13) has certainly packed enough rice wine to keep themselves motivated throughout the trip. BOINC.Italy in #14 is also lagging behind a bit and should keep a close eye on AMD Users (#15).

With a little motivation, the triumvirate behind them could also move up. TFFE (#16), MK (#17), and [H] (#18) are also moving in unison and are not yet fulfilling their potential.

EVGA (#19) and BC (#20) apparently use the MilkyWay for a pleasant outing, while Russia (#21) seems to prefer staying at home.

The gaps are still small, so everything is still possible.

• Who can stop TAAT?
• Can SG keep up the good run?
• Who will fertilize the Green Planet?

You see it remains exciting at the BOINC Pentathlon.

Gleich in die Vollen müssen die 21 Teams gehen, die sich in diesem Jahr der Herausforderung des Pentathlons stellen. Gleich am ersten Tag müssen die Teams in zwei Disziplinen starten und so bleibt keine Zeit zu verlieren, nur Plätze. Kurz vor Anmeldeschluss hat sich noch Team 2ch (2ch) als Teilnehmer eingeschrieben und damit den großen Teams aus China und Amerika gezeigt, was echter Mut ist.

Heute werde ich mich erstmal auf die beiden Einzeldisziplinen einstellen und morgen auch mal einen Blick auf die Gesamtwertung riskieren.

Marathon (World Community Grid: nur das Subprojekt Mapping Cancer Markers)
TAAT legt wieder los wie die Feuerwehr und hat sich bereits deutlich an die Spitze gesetzt. Erst einmal volle Pulle und dann verwalten, scheint auch in diesem Jahr die Devise zu sein. LTT (#2) ist ebenfalls optimal gestartet und setzt so schon mal ein Ausrufezeichen. Platz 3 steht derzeit für Planet 3DNow! (P3D) zu Buche, die aber höhere Ansprüche haben werden.

SETI.Germany (S⁠G) findet sich auf #4 wieder und ist somit ziemlich gut aus den Blöcken gekommen, denn eine kleine Lücke auf 2ch (#5) und [H] (#6) gibt es bereits. Allerdings ist die Strecke noch lang und die Chancen sowie Risiken groß. Die Ukraine auf #7 hat Schwierigkeiten, den Anschluss zu halten und sollte das Czech National Team (CNT, #8) nicht aus dem Auge lassen, die ihrerseits langsam Fahrt aufnehmen.

Im Windschatten der Tschechen versucht Rechenkraft.net (RKN) #9 zu halten, was allerdings nicht so einfach ist. L'Alliance Francophone (AF, #10) und BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#11) machen ordentlich Tempo und kommen so näher. Das Trio schiebt sich derzeit zusammen und es bleibt abzuwarten, wer bei diesem Dreier den Ton angibt.

Die AMD Users auf #12 können da derzeit nicht mithalten, bauen aber ihren Vorsprung vor den Verfolgern GPUUG (#13) und Meisterkuehler (MK, #14) aus. Crunching@EVGA (EVGA, #15) sendet aber gerade ein Lebenszeichen, was die Konkurrenz hellhörig machen sollte.

Die Abstände hier sind knapp und so ist für BOINC.Italy auf #16 der Zug nach vorn bis jetzt nicht abgefahren, allerdings ist dafür etwas mehr Engagement nötig. Etwas einsam war bisher Russia auf #17 unterwegs. Das ändert sich aber gerade, da NoTEAM (#18) den Nachbrenner gezündet hat und plötzlich ziemlich groß im Rückspiegel auftaucht. LITOMYSL (#19) hat dieses Manöver sicher nicht gefallen, denn so einfach sitzen gelassen zu werden, ist auch nicht schön. The Final Front Ear (TFFE) kann sich derzeit #20 sichern und dagegen verwahren, dass BOINC Confederation (BC, #21) die rote Laterne weiterreichen kann.

Stadtlauf (MilkyWay@home)
Bei MilkyWay kommen mir immer drei Assoziationen. Die eine ist beeindruckend schön, die andere lecker und die dritte crunchy. Mal sehen, wie die Teams hier ihre Kraft einsetzen, gerade auch in Abstimmung mit dem Marathon.

TAAT ist auch hier enteilt und wird in diesem Jahr schwer zu schlagen sein. SG möchte wohl die Gunst der Stunde nutzen, derzeit auf #2. Noch vor dem derzeit etwas schwächelnden Grünen Planeten P3D. Da ist doch wohl nicht falsch gedüngt worden?

Auch beim Stadtlauf ist die Ukraine (#5) gut gestartet, allerdings hat LTT (#4) gerade die Reihenfolge richtiggestellt. Ein Zwischenspurt hat NoTEAM auf #6 gebracht, doch nun scheint die Puste bereits verbraucht zu sein. Das ist die Chance für GPUUG (#7), die sie mit einem kleinen Spurt nutzen wollen. BOINC@AUSTRALIA auf #8 und CNT (#9) müssen hier aufpassen.

AF hat sich gerade #10 erkämpft und so LITOMYSL auf #11 verwiesen. Hier gibt es die knappsten Duelle. So wollen wir das auch. Denn hautenge Positionskämpfe sind die Kirsche auf der Sahne der Pentathlontorte.

RKN (#12) sollte unbedingt Kalorien zuführen, denn sonst geht es nicht nach vorn und 2ch (#13) hat sicher genug Reiswein eingepackt, damit die Reise in guter Motivation verläuft. BOINC.Italy auf #14 hängt auch schon etwas zurück und sollte ein wachsames Auge auf die AMD Users (#15) haben.

Mit etwas Motivation könnte auch das Dreigestirn dahinter nach vorn rücken. TFFE (#16), MK (#17) und [H] (#18) sind ebenfalls im Gleichklang unterwegs und spielen ihr Potenzial bisher nicht aus.

EVGA (#19) und BC (#20) nutzen den MilkyWay wohl eher für einen angenehmen Ausflug, während Russia (#21) wohl lieber zu Hause bleibt.

Noch sind die Abstände knapp und so ist noch alles möglich.

• Wer kann TAAT stoppen?
• Kann SG den guten Lauf halten?
• Wer düngt den Grünen Planeten?

Ihr seht, es bleibt spannend beim BOINC Pentathlon.
