Day 12 16 May 2025 #obstacles​

As announced yesterday, Jeeper is for the first time unable to report on the latest goings-on today and tomorrow. Therefore, the gentle reader will temporarily have to make do with one donkeypower instead of his 250 horsepower. Today, I will cover the situation at the Javelin Throw after yesterday's penultimate attempt and only briefly touch on the movements in the other disciplines.

Javelin Throw (NFS@Home)
Gold for LTT, silver for NoTEAM, bronze for P3D if it were not for the fifth attempt tomorrow. Under difficult conditions with strong headwinds, LTT did not throw quite as far yesterday as in the two previous attempts, but far enough to secure at least the silver medal. More is only possible if TAAT (#10) cannot beat LTT's distance from yesterday in the last attempt. P3D will also need one more good attempt, but to win the bronze medal, they will have to hope for a slip-up of SG (#6), who managed to keep their medal hopes alive in the last hour (or minute? or second?).

Ukraine (#18) threw the javelin just far enough to maintain the advantage over CNT (#12) in the likely battle for #5. Both teams still need one good throw tomorrow. NoTEAM has no realistic potential for improvement after three strong throws, so they will probably skip tomorrow and end up in #7.

[H] (#13) was unable to confirm their previous best throw, but this was not necessary, as NoTEAM did not slip up. With a similar throw tomorrow, they can take #8 ahead of RKN (#4), who can no longer meaningfully improve their result tomorrow. Since AF (#9) threw slightly too short yesterday, BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#5) would still have the chance to take the final top 10 spot with another good throw. The rooster almost became potential prey for GPUUG (#7), who can now only finish in #12 on their own. This rank, however, is already safe.

LITOMYSL (#19) finally followed up their good throw in the first attempt with a second good throw yesterday, and could jump all the way up to #13 with another good throw tomorrow, ahead of MK (#8), who no longer have any significant chance of defending themselves. EVGA (#11) can take it easy tomorrow and will most likely end up in #15. AMD Users (#15) could still leave BC (#14) behind with another good throw, and have to give it a shot to avoid giving BOINC.Italy (#16) any opportunity to attack.

Any other result than #19 would be a big surprise for 2ch (#17), the same is true for TFFE and #20. Despite their throw yesterday, Russia (#21) no longer has a chance to avoid the zero on the scoreboard.

Steeplechase (Einstein@Home)
Here, by jumping over the second obstacle, the teams are once again collecting bonus points today, the effects of which I will look at in more detail tomorrow. So far, only NoTEAM (#11) and LITOMYSL (#18) have been able to benefit to an extent relevant to their ranking:

Although the long-distance run leads past many empty refreshment stations, the ranking is not completely set in stone yet. LTT (#2) are steadily closing in on TAAT (#1). There has already been a change in the order on ranks 16-18, with NoTEAM climbing up two ranks here as well:

Overall Standings
The overall standings will slowly converge to the final result during the last attempt at the Javelin Throw tomorrow, and the opportunities have not changed significantly since Jeeper's analysis yesterday. So I will now, as is customary, conclude with three questions and the usual words:

• Who will make the most of today's bonus at the Steeplechase?
• Can NoTEAM continue to catch up in the Marathon?
• What will the weather be like at the Javelin Throw?

Wie gestern angekündigt, ist Jeeper heute und morgen erstmals verhindert, über die Geschehnisse des Tages zu berichten. Deshalb muss der geneigte Leser statt mit seinen 250 Pferdestärken vorübergehend mit einer Eselstärke vorliebnehmen. Heute werde ich die Lage beim Speerwerfen nach dem gestrigen vorletzten Versuch etwas ausführlicher behandeln und nur kurz auf Verschiebungen bei den übrigen Disziplinen eingehen.

Speerwerfen (NFS@Home)
Gold für LTT, Silber für NoTEAM, Bronze für P3D wäre da nicht morgen noch der fünfte Versuch. Unter erschwerten Bedingungen mit heftigem Gegenwind warf LTT gestern nicht ganz so weit wie in den beiden vorangegangenen Versuchen, aber weit genug, um mindestens die Silbermedaille zu sichern. Mehr kann es aber nur noch werden, falls TAAT (#10) im letzten Versuch nicht die gestrige Weite von LTT überbieten kann. P3D wird ebenfalls noch einen guten Versuch benötigen, muss für die Bronzemedaille aber auf einen Ausrutscher von SG (#6) hoffen, die in letzter Stunde (oder Minute? oder Sekunde?) die Medaillenchance wahren konnten.

Ukraine (#18) warf den Speer gerade ausreichend weit, um im voraussichtlichen Kampf um #5 den Vorteil gegenüber CNT (#12) zu bewahren. Beide Teams benötigen morgen noch einen guten Wurf. Für NoTEAM besteht nach drei starken Würfen kein realistisches Verbesserungspotenzial mehr, sodass sie morgen wohl auslassen und am Ende voraussichtlich #7 belegen werden.

Zwar konnte [H] (#13) die bisherige Bestleistung nicht bestätigen, was mangels Ausrutscher von NoTEAM aber auch nicht erforderlich war. Sie können mit einem ähnlich Wurf morgen #8 vor RKN (#4) einfahren, die ihr Ergebnis morgen nicht mehr platzierungsrelevant verbessern können. Da AF (#9) gestern minimal zu kurz warf, hätte BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#5) mit einem weiteren guten Wurf noch die Chance auf den letzten Top-10-Platz. Beinahe wäre der Hahn auch noch potentielle Beute von GPUUG (#7) geworden, die aber nun aus eigener Kraft nur noch auf #12 landen können. Dieser ist allerdings bereits sicher.

LITOMYSL (#19) ließ dem guten Wurf im ersten Versuch gestern endlich eine zweite gute Weite folgen und könnte mit einem weiteren guten Wurf morgen bis auf #13 vor MK (#8) springen, die keine wesentliche Möglichkeit zur Gegenwehr mehr haben. EVGA (#11) kann sich morgen schonen und wird am Ende sehr wahrscheinlich auf #15 landen. Die AMD Users (#15) könnten mit einem weiteren guten Wurf noch BC (#14) hinter sich lassen und müssen dies auch versuchen, um BOINC.Italy (#16) keine Angriffsmöglichkeit zu bieten.

Alles andere als #19 am Ende wäre für 2ch (#17) eine große Überraschung, gleiches gilt für TFFE und #20. Russia (#21) hat trotz des gestrigen Wurfes keine Möglichkeit mehr, die Null auf der Anzeigetafel zu verhindern.

Jagdrennen (Einstein@Home)
Hier sammeln die Teams heute beim Überspringen des zweiten Hindernisses noch einmal Bonuspunkte, deren Auswirkungen ich morgen genauer betrachten werde. Bisher konnten nur NoTEAM (#11) und LITOMYSL (#18) in platzierungsrelevantem Umfang davon profitieren:

Marathon (World Community Grid: nur das Subprojekt Mapping Cancer Markers)
Obwohl der Langstreckenlauf an vielen leeren Verpflegungsstationen vorbeiführt, sind hier noch nicht alle Platzierungen in Stein gemeißelt. So arbeitet sich LTT (#2) immer weiter an TAAT (#1) heran. Bereits vollzogen wurde eine Änderung der Reihenfolge auf den Plätzen 16-18, wobei auch in dieser Disziplin NoTEAM um zwei Plätze nach oben kletterte:

Gesamtwertung
Die Gesamtwertung wird sich morgen im Laufe des letzten Versuchs beim Speerwerfen langsam dem Endergebnis annähern, die Möglichkeiten haben sich gegenüber Jeepers Analyse gestern nicht wesentlich verändert. Daher möchte ich nun wie gewohnt mit drei Fragen und den üblichen Worten schließen:

• Wer nutzt den heutigen Bonus beim Jagdrennen am besten aus?
• Kann NoTEAM die Aufholjagd im Marathon fortsetzen?
• Wie wird das Wetter beim Speerwerfen?

Ihr seht, es bleibt spannend beim BOINC Pentathlon.
