Before Jeeper returns, I can once again take advantage of the fact that donkeys have excellent all-round vision. As the javelins are flying one more time today, making the overall standings clearer, the focus today is on the Steeplechase, in which the teams took to the air again to jump the second obstacle yesterday, and on the overall standings.

Steeplechase (Einstein@Home)
After GPUUG (#1) won bronze in the City Run and silver in the Cross Country two years ago, they are now still on track to complete the medal set this year. TAAT (#2) will probably, for the first time since the Obstacle Run in 2023, win only silver, which LTT (#3) also seems to be interested in, but they are probably not catching up fast enough. All three teams in the medal ranks bagged a similar amount of bonus points yesterday, so the gaps have not increased any further, but the best opportunity to close them has now passed.

P3D was unable to get any closer to the podium, but they were able to secure #4 by a significant margin. Behind them, Ukraine (#5) was also able to use the second obstacle to increase their lead over SG (#6). CNT continued to secure #7, while BOINC@AUSTRALIA in #8 allowed their pursuers to minimally close in. The final two top 10 spots were swapped: [H] (#9) and AMD Users (#10) have bagged almost exactly the same amount of points in the Steeplechase so far, but [H] was able to gain a slight advantage with the bonus points thanks to better timing.

There is still a three-way battle for #11 in the final two days of this race. NoTEAM (#12) collected the biggest bonus yesterday, but had to give way again to RKN (#11) today and AF (#13) is also still in the mix here. In contrast, BOINC.Italy is quite lonely in #14, even though MK (#15) was able to close the gap a little yesterday.

EVGA in #16 are also all on their own, whereas LITOMYSL and 2ch are in a close duel for #17. While the Japanese are running very consistently, the East Bohemians also used the second bonus day to take a slight lead here. TFFE in #19 again has no companion, while behind them, BC (#21) made it into the slipstream of Russia (#20) thanks to the bonus points.

Speerwerfen (NFS@Home)
With slightly less headwind than in the fourth attempt on the day before yesterday, many teams that still needed a good throw today have already managed to reach their target. It still remains to be seen whether SG (#4) allows P3D (#3) to snatch bronze from them, and whether BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#11) and AF (#14) will still overtake GPUUG (#10). The full result will be covered by Jeeper tomorrow.

Marathon (World Community Grid: only subproject Mapping Cancer Markers)
There are still several duels here in which the team behind is not only in a race against the team ahead, but also has to fight against time and with the food supply. LTT (#2) continues to attack TAAT (#1), Ukraine (#5) would like to take #4 from 2ch, CNT (#8) has interest in #7 which is occupied by [H], EVGA (#13) is not too far ahead of BOINC.Italy (#14), MK (#18) would still like to pass Russia (#17), and BC (#20) and TFFE (#21) remain neck and neck. Meanwhile, NoTEAM (#15) once again demonstrated how to move up a rank to the detriment of GPUUG (#16). And NoTEAM can still see slower teams ahead of them, but there is probably not enough time left to catch up with them.

Overall Standings
TAAT (#1) is now clearly heading for the fourth consecutive overall victory, while LTT (#2) is likely to win silver for the first time and P3D (#3) is likely to win bronze for the second time. SG urgently needs to collect bronze at the Javelin Throw to retain #4 in the overall standings even if Ukraine (#5) moves up another rank in the Marathon.

CNT should be safe in #6 despite the rather small lead over [H] (#7), because [H] no longer has any obvious potential improvement. The same applies to GPUUG (#8), who are more likely to lose even more points at the Javelin Throw. RKN has enough of a lead to finish in #9, whereas NoTEAM still has to worry about #10. Both BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#11) and AF (#12) still have the chance to collect more points at the Javelin Throw, and AF can also attack NoTEAM directly in the Steeplechase.

#13 can no longer be taken from AMD Users, and LITOMYSL is also relatively safe in #14 despite the small lead, because they would be ahead in the direct comparison with MK (#15), even if the the cool ones were to tie the score by moving up one rank in the Marathon. However, LITOMYSL would then definitely have to hold on to their rank in the Steeplechase.

The battle for #16 will be decided in a direct duel in the Marathon between EVGA (#16) and BOINC.Italy (#17). If the Italians fail to win this, they could also lose their overall rank to 2ch (#18) if they can both hold on to their rank in the Marathon and move up one rank in the Steeplechase. BC (#19), TFFE (#20), and Russia (#21) have likely reached their final ranks.

And now, in view of the occasion, we are heading into the final day and a half of this Pentathlon with four questions:

• Will SG stumble and lose bronze at the Javelin Throw?
• Who will win the Marathon?
• Who will eventually complete the top 10 in the overall standings?
• And will Jeeper make it back home or will he be lured to Basel by the Eurovision sirens?

You see it remains exciting at the BOINC Pentathlon.

Bevor Jeeper zurückkehrt, darf ich heute noch einmal ausnutzen, dass Esel einen sehr guten Rundumblick haben. Da heute noch einmal die Speere fliegen und dadurch die Gesamtwertung klarer wird, liegt der Fokus heute auf dem Jagdrennen, bei welchem die Teams gestern noch einmal in die Luft gingen, um das zweite Hindernis zu überspringen, und eben auf der Gesamtwertung.

Jagdrennen (Einstein@Home)
Nachdem GPUUG (#1) vor zwei Jahren Bronze im Stadtlauf und Silber beim Querfeldein gewinnen konnte, liegen sie weiterhin auf Kurs, den Medaillensatz in diesem Jahr zu vervollständigen. TAAT (#2) wird wohl erstmals seit dem Hindernislauf 2023 nur Silber gewinnen, woran auch LTT (#3) noch interessiert scheint, die aber wohl nicht schnell genug aufholen. Alle drei Teams auf den Medaillenrängen konnten gestern ähnlich viele Bonuspunkte erbeuten, sodass die Abstände zwar nicht mehr gewachsen sind, aber eben auch die beste Gelegenheit zum Abbauen derselben nun verstrichen ist.

P3D konnte sich nicht näher an das Podium schieben, aber #4 deutlich absichern. Dahinter konnte Ukraine (#5) auch das zweite Hindernis nutzen, um den Vorsprung auf SG (#6) zu vergrößern. CNT sicherte #7 weiter ab, während BOINC@AUSTRALIA auf #8 die Verfolger minimal näher kommen ließ. Die letzten beiden Top-10-Plätze wurden getauscht: [H] (#9) und AMD Users (#10) haben bisher im Jagdrennen fast genau gleich viele Punkte erbeutet, [H] konnte sich aber dank besseren Timings durch die Bonuspunkte einen kleinen Vorteil verschaffen.

Um #11 gibt es auch an den letzten beiden Tagen dieses Rennens noch einen Dreikampf. NoTEAM (#12) sammelte hier gestern den größten Bonus, musste heute aber RKN (#11) wieder den Vortritt lassen und auch AF (#13) mischt hier noch mit. Dagegen ist BOINC.Italy recht einsam auf #14 unterwegs, auch wenn MK (#15) den Abstand gestern etwas verringern konnte.

Auch EVGA auf #16 ist allein auf weiter Flur, wohingegen sich LITOMYSL und 2ch ein enges Duell um #17 liefern. Während die Japaner sehr konstant unterwegs sind, nutzten die Ostböhmen auch den zweiten Bonustag, um hier leicht die Nase vorn zu haben. TFFE auf #19 hat wiederum keinen Begleiter, während dahinter BC (#21) es durch die Bonuspunkte in den Windschatten von Russia (#20) geschafft hat.

Speerwerfen (NFS@Home)
Bei etwas weniger Gegenwind als beim vierten Versuch vorgestern konnten viele Teams, die heute noch einen guten Wurf brauchten, ihr Ziel bereits erreichen. Offen ist gegenwärtig noch, ob SG (#4) sich Bronze noch von P3D (#3) entreißen lässt und ob BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#11) und AF (#14) noch an GPUUG (#10) vorbeiziehen. Das vollständige Ergebnis wird morgen von Jeeper behandelt werden.

Marathon (World Community Grid: nur das Subprojekt Mapping Cancer Markers)
Hier gibt es weiterhin mehrere Duelle, in denen das zurückliegende Team sich nicht nur im Rennen gegen das davor befindliche Team befindet, sondern auch gegen die Zeit und mit der Nahrungszufuhr kämpfen muss. LTT (#2) greift weiterhin TAAT (#1) an, Ukraine (#5) würde gern #4 von 2ch übernehmen, CNT (#8) hat Interesse am von [H] belegten #7, EVGA (#13) hat nicht allzu viel Vorsprung auf BOINC.Italy (#14), MK (#18) möchten noch an Russia (#17) vorbei und BC (#20) und TFFE (#21) bleiben Kopf an Kopf. Wie ein Platzgewinn gelingt, führte unterdessen nochmals NoTEAM (#15) zuungunsten von GPUUG (#16) vor. Und noch immer sieht NoTEAM langsamere Teams vor sich, allerdings wird die Zeit wohl nicht mehr reichen, um diese noch einzuholen.

Gesamtwertung
TAAT (#1) steuert nun klar erkennbar auf den vierten Gesamtsieg in Folge zu, während LTT (#2) erstmals Silber und P3D (#3) zum zweiten Mal Bronze gewinnen dürften. SG muss dringend Bronze beim Speerwerfen einsammeln, um #4 in der Gesamtwertung auch zu behalten, falls Ukraine (#5) im Marathon noch einen Platz gewinnt.

CNT dürfte #6 trotz des überschaubaren Vorsprungs auf [H] (#7) sicher haben, da diese kein erkennbares Steigerungspotenzial mehr haben. Gleiches gilt für GPUUG (#8), die eher noch Punkte beim Speerwerfen verlieren werden. RKN hat genug Vorsprung, um #9 ins Ziel zu tragen, wohingegen NoTEAM noch um #10 bangen muss. Sowohl BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#11) als auch AF (#12) haben noch die Chance, beim Speerwerfen weitere Punkte einzusammeln, AF kann zudem NoTEAM beim Jagdrennen direkt angreifen.

AMD Users ist #13 nicht mehr zu nehmen, und auch LITOMYSL ist trotz des geringen Vorsprungs relativ sicher auf #14, da sie im direkten Vergleich gegen MK (#15) die Nase vorn hätten, auch wenn die Coolen durch einen Platzgewinn im Marathon noch den Gleichstand schaffen sollten. Allerdings müsste LITOMYSL dann zwingend den Platz im Jagdrennen halten.

Der Kampf um #16 wird im direkten Duell im Marathon zwischen EVGA (#16) und BOINC.Italy (#17) entschieden werden. Falls die Italiener dieses nicht für sich entscheiden können, könnten sie ihren Platz in der Gesamtwertung auch noch an 2ch (#18) abgeben müssen, falls diese sowohl ihren Platz im Marathon halten als auch einen Platz im Jagdrennen gewinnen können. BC (#19), TFFE (#20) und Russia (#21) dürften ihre endgültigen Platzierungen erreicht haben.

Und nun geht es aus gegebenem Anlass mit vier Fragen in die letzten etwa anderthalb Tage dieses Pentathlons:

• Verstolpert SG Bronze beim Speerwerfen?
• Wer gewinnt den Marathon?
• Wer komplettiert am Ende die Top 10 der Gesamtwertung?
• Und schafft es Jeeper wieder nach Hause oder lässt er sich von den Eurovisionssirenen nach Basel locken?

Ihr seht, es bleibt spannend beim BOINC Pentathlon.
