As threatened yesterday, there is a big dose of Marathon today. I hope that I can bring you some joy, even though it is a little late, after I had my own marathon in a waiting room with the wearer of my ring. Time and distance are always a mixed bag; for some, a marathon is the ultimate challenge, while for others, it is just a little warm-up exercise for whatever may follow next.

At first glace, the Marathon seems to offer less excitement than the other disciplines. But that, too, is in the eye of the beholder, and depends on whether you like subtle and delicate suspense or brute force and action.

The Marathon is the fine blade; it requires recognizing the slow build-up of suspense and laying trails that lead nowhere, or sometimes revealing the obvious. It remains to be revealed in which category it falls this year.

Sweating against cancer, it does not get any better than this. So it is well worth putting in a few watts. Let us see who does it best so far.

Marathon (World Community Grid: only subproject Mapping Cancer Markers)
TAAT are in a particular hurry and put themselves in the comfortable position of being able to manage their lead (and maybe throw the first javelin very far). Behind them, LTT has further consolidated #2, but P3D (#3) can match the pace, so the Green Planet forces LTT to continue at full throttle.

It was in 2015 that 2ch won the Marathon at WCG. They probably will not be able to repeat that this year, but the Japanese do make an impressive comeback by taking #4. This, in turn, cannot please SG, as #5 is far from ideal with regard to the overall standings.

At least they keep [H] (#6) at bay, who in turn extend their lead on CNT (#7) and Ukraine (#8). These two teams are still close together, but the Czechs currently have the faster pace and will probably be able to pull away.

Only #9 is currently left for AF, who are under constant pressure from RKN (#10), BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#11), and AMD Users (#12). This trio keeps contact, meaning that none of the four teams can afford to falter.

While EVGA and BOINC.Italy are securing #13 and #14, respectively, Russia was able to move up to #15. GPUUG (#16) and MK (#17) will not like this, but that it what happens if you only have eyes for each other. However, there are increasing signs that GPUUG will soon break up this relationship. But maybe LITOMYSL (#18) will knock on the door soon; a sharp increase in pace sparks speculation on the sidelines. Are the cooling experts so cold that they consider swapping their partner?

This leaves NoTEAM with only #19 and a sad look on their face. It could become a lonely race for them, as TFFE (#20) and BC (#21) are too far away for a direct flirt.

Overall Standings
Sure, TAAT is in the lead, but behind them, SG (#4) seems to be handing LTT and P3D (both #2) the podium on a silver platter. That is not how it works, folks, we want suspense until the bitter end in the fight for the podium. So pull yourself together!

Ukraine still holds onto #5, but has to watch how CNT (#6) and [H] (#7) are closing in. Behind them, 2ch does not know yet whether or not #8 is okay. This could be because BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#9) as well as AF and RKN (both #10) do not exert much pressure. However, this might change soon at the Javelin Throw and the freshly scheduled Sprint.

The train toward the top 10 has not yet left the station for GPUUG either. This is not because it is a German ICE train that is always late anyway. No, they really still have it in their own computers.

AMD Users in #13 have not yet lost their calm and can also have a look at the drama behind them again and again. There, 4 teams are within 3 points of each other: EVGA (#14), BOINC.Italy (#15), LITOMYSL (#16), and NoTEAM (#17).

Behind them, MK in #18 seem a bit too cool right now, and Russia (#19) will soon take advantage of this. And at the end of the field, TFFE and BC perform a strange ritual: Both are constantly trying to get rid of the red lantern by throwing it to their opponent.

Disciplines number 3 and 4 are starting soon, but until then we still have some time and a few questions:

• Will SG finally pull themselves together?
• Can Ukraine attack #4 at MilkyWay@home?
• And who will catch the most red light at the end?

You see it remains exciting at the BOINC Pentathlon.

Comme annoncé hier, je vous sers une grande dose de Marathon aujourd'hui. J'espère pouvoir vous faire plaisir, même tardivement, après avoir subi mon propre marathon dans une zone d'attente avec ma moitié. C'est un peu le problème avec le temps et la distance: pour certains, un marathon est le défi ultime, pour d'autres, c'est juste un petit échauffement pour n'importe quoi d'autre.

Au premier coup d'il, il semble y avoir moins de suspense au Marathon que sur les autres disciplines. Mais ça aussi, ça dépend de l'il de l'observateur. Selon que l'on aime le suspense fin et subtil ou plutôt la force brute et l'action.

Le Marathon est une fine lame. Il nécessite de déceler la lente montée en tension et la pose de fausses pistes ou, parfois, la révélation d'une évidence. La catégorie dans laquelle il tombera cette année nous sera sûrement dévoilée.

Transpirer contre le cancer, il n'y a pas mieux. Cela vaut particulièrement la peine d'investir un ou deux watts. Voyons qui y arrive le mieux jusqu'à présent.

TAAT est particulièrement pressée et se retrouve dans la confortable position de pouvoir gérer son avance (et peut-être de lancer son premier javelot particulièrement loin). Derrière, LTT a continué a consolider sa 2e place, mais P3D (#3) arrive à suivre. La Planète verte oblige ainsi LTT à poursuivre à pleine puissance.

C'était en 2015 que 2ch a remporté le Marathon sur WCG. Cette année, elle n'y parviendra sans doute pas, mais avec la 4e place, les Japonais font un retour impressionnant. En revanche, cela ne plaira pas à SG, car la 5e place n'est pas vraiment idéale pour le classement général.

Au moins, elle tient [H] (#6) à distance qui, à son tour, augmente son avance sur CNT (#7) et l'Ukraine (#8). Ces deux équipes se tiennent encore de près, mais pour l'heure les Tchèques progressent plus vite et devraient pouvoir décrocher.

Actuellement, il ne reste que la 9e place à l'AF qui est constamment mise sous pression par RKN (#10), BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#11) et AMD Users (#12). Ce trio reste au contact, ce qui signifie qu'aucune des quatre équipes ne peut se permettre de faiblesse.

Tandis qu'EVGA (#13) et BOINC.Italy (#14) sécurisent leurs places vers l'avant et vers l'arrière, Russia a réussi à progresser à la 15e place. Ce ne sera pas du goût de GPUUG (#16) et MK (#17), mais ce sont des choses qui arrivent quand on n'a d'yeux que pour l'autre. Cependant, de plus en plus de signes indiquent que GPUUG est sur le point de rompre cette relation. Peut-être que LITOMYSL (#18) frappera bientôt à la porte? Une puissante accélération déclenche les spéculations en marge de la piste. Les Meisterkuehler sont-ils suffisamment froids pour envisager un changement de partenaire?

Il ne reste plus à NoTEAM qu'à se classer 19e et à regarder tristement devant elle. Cela pourrait devenir une course solitaire, car TFFE (#20) et BC (#21) sont trop loin pour un flirt direct.

Classement général
Bien sûr, TAAT en tête, mais derrière, SG (#4) semble vouloir servir le podium sur un plateau d'argent à LTT et P3D (toutes deux #2). Ce n'est pas possible, les gars, nous voulons du suspense jusqu'au bout pour le podium. Alors, ressaisissez-vous!

L'Ukraine se maintient toujours à la 5e place, mais elle doit regarder CNT (#6) et [H] (#7) se rapprocher de plus en plus. Derrière, 2ch ne sait pas encore si la 8e place est bonne ou pas. Cela pourrait venir du fait que BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#9), ainsi que l'AF et RKN (toutes deux #10) exercent trop peu de pression.

Mais cela pourrait rapidement changer au Lancer de javelot et au Sprint récemment programmé. Même pour GPUUG, le train pour le top10 est loin d'être parti. Ce n'est pas parce qu'il s'agit d'un ICE allemand qui part de toute façon toujours en retard. Non, elle a sa destinée dans ses propres ordinateurs.

Les AMD Users au rang 13 ne se laissent pas déstabiliser et peuvent toujours regarder le drame qui se déroule derrière. En effet, 4 équipes se tiennent ici en 3 points: EVGA (#14), BOINC.Italy (#15), LITOMYSL (#16) et NoTEAM (#17).

Les MK, derrière au rang 18, me semblent pour l'heure un peu trop refroidis, chose dont pourrait profiter Russia (#19) très prochainement. Et en queue de peloton, TFFE et BC exécutent un drôle de rituel: toutes deux essaient constamment de se débarrasser de la lanterne rouge et la lancent sans cesse à l'autre.

Bientôt démarrent les disciplines 3 et 4, mais d'ici là nous avons encore un peu de temps et quelques questions:

• SG va-t-elle enfin se ressaisir?
• L'Ukraine peut-elle attaquer la 4e place sur MilkyWay@home?
• Et qui recevra le plus de lumière rouge à la fin?

Vous voyez, le BOINC Pentathlon reste captivant.

Wie gestern angedroht, gibt es heute eine große Dosis Marathon. Hoffentlich kann ich euch auch etwas verspätet erfreuen, nachdem ich mit meiner Ringträgerin einen eigenen Marathon in einem Wartebereich hatte. Es ist eben so eine Sache mit Zeit und Entfernung, für den einen ist ein Marathon die ultimative Herausforderung, für den anderen nur eine kleine Aufwärmübung, wozu auch immer.

Auf den ersten Blick scheint beim Marathon weniger Spannung zu herrschen als bei anderen Disziplinen. Aber auch das liegt im Auge des Betrachters. Nämlich ob man die subtile und feine Spannung mag oder brachiale Kraft und Action.

Der Marathon ist die feine Klinge, er erfordert das Erkennen des langsamen Spannungsaufbaus und das Legen in die Leere gehender Fährten oder manchmal das Enthüllen des Offensichtlichen. In welche Kategorie er in diesem Jahr fällt, wird uns noch enthüllt werden.

Schwitzen gegen den Krebs, besser geht es nicht. Da lohnt es sich doch besonders, das eine oder andere Watt reinzustecken. Mal sehen, wer das bisher am besten kann.

TAAT hat es besonders eilig und bringt sich in die komfortable Position, die Führung verwalten zu können (und vielleicht den ersten Speer besonders weit zu werfen). Dahinter hat LTT #2 weiter gefestigt, allerdings kann P3D (#3) das Tempo mitgehen, womit der Grüne Planet LTT zwingt, weiter voll draufzuhalten.

2015 war es, als 2ch den Marathon bei WCG gewann. Dafür wird es dieses Jahr wohl nicht reichen, aber mit #4 melden sich die Japaner durchaus eindrucksvoll zurück. Dies wiederum kann SG nicht gefallen, denn #5 ist für die Gesamtwertung wenig optimal.

Zumindest [H] (#6) hält man damit auf Distanz, die wiederum ihren Vorsprung auf CNT (#7) und Ukraine (#8) ausbauen. Die beiden Teams liegen noch eng beieinander, doch derzeit haben die Tschechen die höhere Laufgeschwindigkeit und werden sich wohl absetzen können.

AF bleibt derzeit nur #9 und wird permanent von RKN (#10), BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#11) und AMD Users (#12) unter Druck gesetzt. Das Trio bleibt dran, was bedeutet, dass keines der vier Teams schwächeln darf.

Während EVGA #13 und BOINC.Italy #14 nach vorn und hinten absichern, konnte sich Russia auf #15 vorarbeiten. Das wird GPUUG (#16) und MK (#17) nicht schmecken, allerdings passiert sowas, wenn man nur Augen füreinander hat. Allerdings mehren sich die Anzeichen, dass GPUUG dieses Verhältnis bald auflöst.

Aber vielleicht klopft ja bald LITOMYSL (#18) an, eine heftige Tempoverschärfung löst Spekulationen am Rande der Strecke aus. Sind die Meisterkuehler so kalt, dass sie einen Partnertausch erwägen?

Da bleibt dem NoTEAM nur #19 und traurig hinterherzuschauen. Das könnte noch ein einsames Rennen geben, denn TFFE (#20) und BC (#21) sind für einen direkten Flirt zu weit weg.

Gesamtwertung
Klar, TAAT in Führung, doch dahinter scheint SG (#4) LTT und P3D (beide #2) das Podium auf dem Silbertablett servieren zu wollen. So geht das aber nicht, Leute, wir wollen Spannung bis zum bitteren Ende beim Kampf ums Podium. Also reißt euch zusammen!

Die Ukraine hält weiter #5, muss aber mit ansehen, wie CNT (#6) und [H] (#7) immer näher kommen. Dahinter ist 2ch bisher nicht klar, ob #8 okay ist oder nicht. Das könnte daran liegen, dass BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#9) sowie AF und RKN (beide #10) zu wenig Druck ausüben. Doch das könnte sich ja bald beim Speerwerfen und dem nun neu terminierten Sprint ändern.

Auch für GPUUG ist der Zug in Richtung Top 10 noch lange nicht abgefahren. Das liegt nicht daran, dass es sich hier um einen deutschen ICE handelt, der eh ständig zu spät losfährt. Nein, man hat es wirklich noch selbst in den Rechnern.

Die AMD Users auf #13 lassen sich da bisher nicht aus der Ruhe bringen und können sich auch das Drama dahinter immer wieder anschauen. Denn hier liegen 4 Teams innerhalb von 3 Punkten: EVGA (#14), BOINC.Italy (#15), LITOMYSL (#16) und NoTEAM (#17).

MK dahinter auf #18 scheinen mir derzeit etwas zu unterkühlt, was Russia (#19) sehr bald ausnutzen kann. Und am Ende des Feldes vollführen TFFE und BC ein seltsames Ritual: Beide versuchen ständig, die rote Laterne loszuwerden, und werfen sie immer wieder dem Gegenüber zu.

Bald geht es mit den Disziplinen 3 und 4 los, doch bis dahin haben wir noch etwas Zeit und ein paar Fragen:

• Reißt sich SG endlich zusammen?
• Kann die Ukraine bei MilkyWay@home #4 angreifen?
• Und wer bekommt am Ende am meisten Rotlicht ab?

Ihr seht, es bleibt spannend beim BOINC Pentathlon.
