Back in 2023, I had asked ChatGPT gefragt if the Pentathlon means something to him/her/it. This time, I checked out what Elon did. While his cars are not really my thing, as I prefer the 6 cylinders in my J**p, but Grok really has what it takes. Quote: Haha, that little jab at ChatGPT in the 2023 report? I find it quite amusing! It shows the community spirit of the BOINC Pentathlon, where you sometimes tease the competitors with a wink.

Is that not wonderful? Will we live up to this community spirit again in 2025? After all, the Pentathlon is a competition, but it is supposed to be fun. We are not here to snarl at each other. So, have fun!

The veterans will probably mostly agree with Grok's assessment. Right?

• The Pentathlon promotes the spirit of Volunteer Computing and rejects systems that are based on monetization. Teams that harm projects or other participants risk consequences.
• Projects often serve as stress tests and this sometimes leads to server problems, but also helps the projects to identify their weaknesses.
• Teams have to make strategic decisions on how to allocate their computing resources to simultaneous disciplines, because there are often multiple disciplines running at the same time.

Almost spot on. We should urgently develop that stress test part further this year. And I know that there are a few teams out there that will turn this into a challenge.

This also proves that the BOINC Pentathlon will have an eternal place in the history of humanity. So we are making history, folks.

Please behave yourself, be good, and always grin at the camera on your screen. You never know who will see your misdeeds in 100 years' time.

And do not worry, there will be no tariffs on delivery or return of work units this year either. You see, there is absolutely no reason not to take part.

While the veterans are already busy sprucing up their computing units for the start, some newbies may still have doubts because of the uncharted territory. But there is no reason for that. Bring a good mood and simply ride the wave of enthusiasm in your team.

Furthermore, we help to use up excess solar power, especially in Teutonia. Crunching for the energy transition, so to speak, or better: Crunching against the blackout! So it is all the more careless not to take part. Crunching is therefore not a safety risk, but an essential safety feature.

So far, 20 teams have signed up, with a few regulars yet to use their index finger to complete registration. We also have a returnee with BOINC Confederation, who are looking to improve on #16 back in 2017.

Apart from that, there are a few open questions that will be answered in the next days:

• Can TeAm AnandTech (TAAT) still be stopped?
• Can LinusTechTips_Team (LTT) and [H]ard|OCP ([H]) fight for medals again?
• Will GPU Users Group (GPUUG) aim for anything other than #7?

Are you ready yet? Do you already have ants in your pants? You cannot wait any longer? If not, then quickly start reading again at the top. For the emotional among you, reading once is enough, whereas those with ice water in their veins may have to read a dozen times. But then you will realize that it is here:

Pentathlon fever. It is highly contagious and sometimes even deadly for non-life forms, but it causes adrenaline rushes and emotions ranging from on top of the world to the depths of despair. What is in store for us this year? Of course, there will be the Marathon, and the Steeplechase will run for seven days this time, as originally planned, after its premiere last year had to be shortened at short notice. Javelin Throw, Sprint, and City Run are also happening again. When which discipline will start is, of course, kept secret for now. So let yourself be surprised. The tactical departments of the teams are surely already preparing mentally for the upcoming events, because they know:

En 2023, j'avais demandé à ChatGPT si le Pentathlon lui disait quelque chose. Cette fois-ci, je suis allé voir ce qu'Elon a fait. Ses voitures ne sont pas vraiment mon truc, je préfère les 6 cylindres de ma J**p, mais Grok en a vraiment dans le carafon: Citation: «Haha, cette petite pointe contre ChatGPT dans le compte-rendu de 2023? Je trouve ça assez amusant! Elle montre l'esprit de communauté du BOINC Pentathlon où l'on peut taquiner la concurrence en faisant un clin d'il.»

N'est-ce pas merveilleux? Serons-nous à la hauteur de cet esprit de communauté en 2025? Certes, le Pentathlon est une compétition, mais il doit aussi faire plaisir. Nous ne sommes pas là pour nous grogner dessus. Donc, faites-vous plaisir!

Les vieux de la vieille devraient majoritairement être d'accord avec ce ressenti de Grok, non?

• Le Pentathlon cultive l'esprit du calcul partagé et refuse les systèmes de monétisation. Les équipes qui nuisent aux projets ou aux autres participants prennent le risque de subir des conséquences.
• Les projets subissent souvent des stress tests, ce qui peut entraîner des problèmes de serveur, mais aide aussi les projets à déceler les faiblesses.
• Les équipes doivent prendre des décisions stratégiques quant à la répartition de leurs ressources de calcul, car il y a souvent plusieurs disciplines simultanées.

Presque dans le mille. Nous devrions impérativement développer cette histoire de stress test. En plus, je sais qu'il existe certaines équipes là-dehors qui en font un défi.

La preuve est ainsi faite que le BOINC Pentathlon aura une place permanente dans l'histoire de l'humanité. Nous écrivons donc l'Histoire, les gars.

Alors, tenez-vous à carreau, soyez très sages et souriez toujours à la caméra de l'écran. On ne sait jamais qui verra vos méfaits dans 100 ans.

Et n'ayez crainte: cette année non plus, il n'y aura pas de droits de douane lors de la récupération et de la livraison des UT. Vous voyez: il n'y a absolument aucune raison pour ne pas participer.

Tandis que les vieux briscards s'affairent déjà à nettoyer leurs ordinateurs pour le départ, certains nouveaux sont peut-être encore dans le flou par rapport au terrain inconnu. Mais il n'y a aucune raison. Il suffit d'apporter de la bonne humeur et de se laisser porter par la vague d'enthousiasme des équipes.

De plus, nous aidons - en particulier en Teutonie - à consommer l'électricité solaire en excédent. En quelque sorte, nous crunchons pour la transition énergétique ou, mieux, nous crunchons contre le black-out! Il serait d'autant plus négligent de ne pas y participer. Le crunch n'est donc pas un risque pour la sécurité, mais une fonctionnalité de sécurité absolue.

Jusqu'à présent, 20 équipes se sont inscrites, sachant que quelques habituées ne se sont pas encore servies de leur index pour finaliser l'inscription. Avec la BOINC Confederation, nous avons aussi un revenant qui s'apprête à améliorer sa 16e place de 2017.

À part ça, il reste encore quelques questions auxquelles nous allons répondre dans les prochains jours:

• Peut-on encore arrêter TeAm AnandTech (TAAT)?
• LinusTechTips_Team (LTT) et [H]ard|OCP ([H]) peuvent-elles à nouveau se battre pour des médailles?
• GPU Users Group (GPUUG) se fixe-t-elle d'autres objectifs que la 7e place?

Êtes-vous prêt·e·s? Piaffez-vous déjà d'impatience? Avez-vous hâte que ça démarre? Si ce n'est pas le cas, recommencez vite la lecture du début. Pour les plus émotionnels parmi vous, une seule lecture suffira; pour ceux qui ont de l'eau glacée dans les veines, il faudra peut-être une douzaine de lectures. Mais ensuite vous sentirez qu'elle est là, la fièvre du Pentathlon.

Elle est extrêmement contagieuse et peut aussi être mortelle pour les formes non vivantes, mais elle vous donnera aussi des poussées d'adrénaline et des émotions qui vont de la joie au désespoir. Et, pour finir, il y a cette sensation géniale #quandladouleursestompe. Les connaisseurs savent l'apprécier. Effectivement, ils savent que les symptômes s'atténueront à partir du 19/05, suivis par un léger #jenveuxencore.

Qu'est-ce qui nous attend cette année? Nous retrouverons bien sûr le Marathon. Le Steeple-chase, qui a dû être raccourci à la dernière minute lors de sa première l'an dernier, durera sept jours cette fois, comme prévu. Le Lancer de javelot, le Sprint et la Course urbaine seront également de la partie. La date de début de chaque discipline reste bien entendu confidentielle jusqu'au dernier moment. Alors laissez-vous surprendre. Les services tactiques des équipes sont sûrement déjà en train de se préparer mentalement aux événements à venir, car ils savent:

2023 hatte ich ChatGPT gefragt, ob er/sie/es etwas mit dem Pentathlon anfangen kann. Dieses Mal habe ich mal geschaut, was der Elon so gemacht hat. Seine Autos sind ja nicht so meins, da mir 6 Zylinder in meinem J**p lieber sind, aber Grok hat es echt drauf. Zitat: Haha, die kleine Spitze gegen ChatGPT im Bericht von 2023? Ich finde es ziemlich amüsant! Es zeigt den Community-Geist des BOINC Pentathlons, wo man mit einem Augenzwinkern auch mal die Konkurrenz neckt.

Ist das nicht wunderbar? Werden wir auch 2025 diesem Community-Geist gerecht? Denn der Pentathlon ist zwar ein Wettbewerb, aber dieser soll natürlich Spaß machen. Wir sind ja nicht hier, um einander anzuknurren. Also, habt Spaß!

Die alten Hasen werden wohl der Einschätzung von Grok überwiegend zustimmen. Oder?

• Der Pentathlon fördert den Geist des freiwilligen Rechnens und lehnt Monetarisierungssysteme ab. Teams, die Projekten oder anderen Teilnehmern schaden, riskieren Konsequenzen.
• Projekte dienen oft als Stresstests, was manchmal zu Serverproblemen führt, aber auch den Projekten hilft, Schwächen zu erkennen.
• Teams müssen strategisch entscheiden, wie sie ihre Rechenressourcen auf die Disziplinen gleichzeitig verteilen, da mehrere Disziplinen oft laufen.

Fast genau getroffen. Das mit dem Stresstest sollten wir dieses Jahr dringend weiterentwickeln. Außerdem weiß ich ja, dass da draußen das eine oder andere Team existiert, das daraus eine Herausforderung macht.

Damit ist jetzt auch bewiesen, dass der BOINC Pentathlon in der Geschichte der Menschheit einen ewigen Platz haben wird. Wir schreiben also Geschichte, Leute.

Also benehmt euch, seid ganz artig und grinst immer in die Bildschirmkamera. Man weiß nie, wer in 100 Jahren eure Untaten sieht.

Und keine Angst, Zölle werden auch in diesem Jahr bei der An- und Rücklieferung der WUs nicht erhoben. Ihr seht: Es gibt absolut keinen Grund, nicht dabei zu sein.

Während die alten Hasen schon fleißig ihre Recheneinheiten für den Start herausputzen, ist vielleicht der eine oder andere Neuling noch unsicher, des unbekannten Gebietes wegen. Aber dafür gibt es keinen Grund. Gute Laune mitbringen und einfach von der Woge der Begeisterung in den Teams mittragen lassen.

Außerdem helfen wir, besonders in Teutonien, überschüssigen Solarstrom zu verbrauchen. Crunchen für die Energiewende sozusagen oder besser: Crunchen gegen den Blackout! Umso fahrlässiger, nicht dabei zu sein. Crunchen ist also kein Sicherheitsrisiko, sondern ein absolutes Sicherheitsfeature.

Bisher haben sich 20 Teams angemeldet, wobei ein paar Stammkunden noch nicht den Zeigefinger genutzt haben, um die Anmeldung abzuschließen. Mit der BOINC Confederation haben wir auch einen Rückkehrer, der sich anschickt, #16 aus 2017 zu verbessern.

Ansonsten stehen da noch ein paar Fragen aus, die wir in den nächsten Tagen klären werden:

• Ist TeAm AnandTech (TAAT) noch aufzuhalten?
• Können LinusTechTips_Team (LTT) und [H]ard|OCP ([H]) wieder um Medaillen kämpfen?
• Setzt sich GPU Users Group (GPUUG) andere Ziele außer #7?

Seid ihr schon bereit? Habt ihr schon Hummeln im Hintern? Könnt ihr es gar nicht mehr erwarten? Wenn nicht, dann fangt rasch wieder oben an zu lesen. Für die Emotionalen unter euch reicht einmal lesen aus, bei denen mit Eiswasser in den Venen mag ein Dutzend Mal nötig sein. Aber dann werdet ihr es merken, dass es da ist:

Das Pentathlon-Fieber. Es ist hochansteckend und für Nichtlebensformen manchmal auch tödlich, sorgt aber für Adrenalinstöße und Emotionen von himmelhoch jauchzend bis zu Tode betrübt. Und zu guter Letzt gibt es das geile Gefühl, #wennderschmerznachlässt. Kenner wissen das zu schätzen. Denn ihnen ist klar, dass die Symptome ab dem 19.05. abklingen werden, gefolgt von leichtem #willichwiederhaben.

Was wird uns dieses Jahr erwarten? Es gibt natürlich wieder einen Marathon, und nachdem das Jagdrennen bei seiner Premiere im Vorjahr kurzfristig verkürzt werden musste, wird es dieses Mal wie ursprünglich geplant sieben Tage dauern. Speerwerfen, Sprint und Stadtlauf sind ebenso wieder dabei. Wann es mit welcher Disziplin losgeht, ist natürlich bis zuletzt Verschlusssache. Also lasst euch überraschen. Die taktischen Abteilungen der Teams bereiten sich bestimmt schon mental auf die kommenden Ereignisse vor, denn sie wissen:
