Day 14 18 May 2026 #finalspurt​

The end is nigh and it is not getting deadly boring. After I addressed the situation in detail yesterday, I will only have a look at the hotspots today.

Sprint (NFS@Home)
We have a new leader in the Sprint. TAAT have made it and taken the lead. It remains to be seen if LTT can fight back. TAAT are currently trying everything to prevent that. It is still open whether Ukraine, starting from #3, can ride an attack towards Silver.

SG (#5) showed what can be possible and they came closer to P3D with a strong intermediate spurt. But the gap to the Green Planet is still obvious. However, this short spurt makes it clear that neither CNT, nor AF, nor [H] can feel safe in their position.

It is still close between GPUUG (#9) and NT. It looks like this decision will be a photo finish. Behind them, it is just as close between RKN (#11) and MK. LITOMYSL currently seem to lose touch to that duo, but they are not yet out of the race completely.

BOINC.Italy (#14) and BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#15) are still going fast. They might be running on their own, but are nonetheless catching up to LITOMYSL. We will have to see if that is enough for a final attack. It is definitely possible.

Marathon through the Milky Way (MilkyWay@home)
Naturally, the gaps here are already rather big and not many changes are to be expected in the last hours. And even if there are opportunities opening up, that does not mean that they will be taken. A lot of teams are concentrating on the Sprint, but this might also bring new opportunities.

Ukraine stay in #1. TAAT are getting closer, but they seem to be focusing on the Sprint, so I do not expect an attack here. P3D, however, could still attack and they have already accelerated. The question is: Is that enough? What is there still to come?

LTT, SG, and CNT do not need to fear anything behind that. That is still open in the case of GPUUG. AF have at least theoretical chances. It could also get tough for [H] (#9), since RKN are stepping on the pedal and getting closer. A nice side effect for RKN is that they not only could pass BOINC@AUSTRALIA, but are also steadily expanding their lead.

BOINC.Italy (#12) and 2ch are also having a duel with a slight advantage for the Italians. NTs (#14) milk could turn sour soon, because MK are getting closer and closer.

We have another duel between AMD (#18) and Chinese Dream. This shows how close and exciting this years long-distance race is until the very end.

Overall Standings
TAATs advantage has grown due to the leader change in the Sprint. This does not yet have consequences for LTT, but they should watch out to keep it that way. Ukraine will most certainly win the Bronze medal.

Behind that, the ranks are set. It is not until #9 that it gets closer again. AF (#9) and BOINC@AUSTRALIA will make out #9 and #10 among themselves, since NT will not win any additional points. Probably quite the contrary.

If BOINC.Italy and MK keep #14 and #15, remains to be seen. The difference is not big and a change cannot be ruled out.

At the end, Chinese Dream (#19) still have the chance to oust AMD from #18, whereas B^S (#20) and BC (#21) are running out of options to do anything.

Das Ende ist nah und es wird nicht todlangweilig. Nachdem ich mich gestern bereits ausführlicher mit der Lage beschäftigt habe, schaue ich mir heute nur die Brennpunkte an.

Sprint (NFS@Home)
Führungswechsel beim Sprint. TAAT hat es nun doch geschafft und sich an die Spitze gesetzt. Nun bleibt es abzuwarten, ob LTT zurückschlagen kann. Aktuell versucht TAAT alles, um das zu verhindern. Noch offen bleibt, ob die Ukraine von #3 aus die Attacke auf Silber reiten kann.

Was möglich ist, hat SG (#5) gezeigt, die mit einem heftigen Zwischensprint näher an P3D gekommen sind. Allerdings bleibt der Rückstand auf den Grünen Planeten deutlich. Dieser Zwischenspurt macht aber auch klar, dass weder CNT noch AF noch [H] sich ihrer Platzierung sicher sein können.

Eng geht es weiter zwischen GPUUG (#9) und NT zu. Hier wird die Entscheidung wohl im Fotofinish erfolgen. Nicht minder eng geht es dahinter zwischen RKN (#11) und MK zu. Aktuell scheint LITOMYSL den Anschluss an das Duo zu verlieren, ist aber auch noch nicht ganz aus dem Rennen.

Weiter flott unterwegs sind BOINC.Italy (#14) und BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#15). Beide laufen zwar für sich allein, kommen dafür aber LITOMYSL immer näher. Ob es für den finalen Angriff reicht, müssen wir beobachten, möglich ist es aber.

Marathon auf der Milchstraße (MilkyWay@home)
Naturgemäß sind die Abstände hier schon größer und viel Bewegung ist in den letzten Stunden nicht zu erwarten. Und selbst wo es Möglichkeiten gibt, heißt das ja nicht, dass diese auch genutzt werden. Viele Teams konzentrieren sich auf den Sprint, das aber könnte auch eine Chance sein.

Ukraine bleibt auf #1. TAAT kommt zwar näher, scheint sich aber eher auf den Sprint zu konzentrieren, sodass ich hier keinen Angriff erwarte. P3D könnte aber noch attackieren und hat auch schon beschleunigt. Es stellt sich die Frage, reicht das? Was kommt da noch?

LTT, SG und CNT haben dahinter wohl nichts mehr zu befürchten, bei GPUUG dagegen bleibt dies abzuwarten. AF hat zumindest eine theoretische Chance. Eng könnte es auch noch für [H] (#9) werden, da RKN beschleunigt hat und näher kommt. Positiver Nebeneffekt für die Rechenkraftler ist, dass sie nicht nur BOINC@AUSTRALIA überholen konnten, sondern so auch den Vorsprung stetig vergrößern.

BOINC.Italy (#12) und 2ch sind ebenfalls im Duell unterwegs, auch die Italiener haben gerade einen leichten Vorsprung. Für NT auf #14 könnte die Milch bald sauer werden, denn MK verringern stetig den Abstand.

Ein weiteres Duell haben wir zwischen AMD (#18) und Chinese Dream und dies zeigt, wie eng und spannend die Langstrecke in diesem Jahr bis zum Ende ist.

Gesamtwertung
Durch den Führungswechsel beim Sprint ist der Vorsprung von TAAT gewachsen. Noch hat das für LTT keine Auswirkungen, sie sollten aber wachsam bleiben, damit sich das auch nicht ändert. Kaum noch zu nehmen ist die Bronzemedaille den Ukrainern.

Dahinter scheinen die Plätze bezogen, erst ab #9 wird es enger. AF (#9) und BOINC@AUSTRALIA werden die Reihenfolge um Platz 9 und 10 unter sich ausmachen, da NT keine Punkte mehr gewinnen wird, eher im Gegenteil.

Ob BOINC.Italy #14 und MK #15 behalten werden, bleibt abzuwarten. Der Punkteunterschied ist nicht groß und so ist ein Platztausch nicht auszuschließen.

Am Ende hat Chinese Dream (#19) noch die Chance, AMD von #18 zu vertreiben, wogegen B^S (#20) und BC (#21) die Optionen ausgehen.
