Final Report Part 2 #letusconclude
With Ukraine, we have a new team in history to win a medal. This is especially awesome because Ukraine have been a part of every single Pentathlon. So, it pays off to hang on and never give up.
TAAT remain the top performers and it would be nice if Gold was more contested. But behind them, it is not boring. Six teams won single medals and the drama during the Sprint shows, that the upper mid-table is very close together. And even at the end of the table, it stayed exciting until the end.
As usual, the final rankings follow in the order Marathon - Steeplechase - Javelin Throw - City Run - Sprint. Also given are last years overall rank, the number appearances, and the discipline and overall medals, itemised for Gold-Silver-Bronze. And as always, my commentary regarding the top 15.
Gold Medal
TeAm AnandTech (2-1-1-2-1)

They again play in their own league. This is not only due to their mere power, but the contestants also make it too easy for them because they perform too inconsistently. With their fifth win in a row, they equal P3Ds record.
Silver Medal

A Gold medal is still only a dream. They were not too far off in the Sprint, so it is possible. Their lack of consistency across the disciplines prevented them from winning more discipline medals.
Bronze Medal

The first discipline victory and the first three discipline medals in addition to Bronze in the overall standings. They can be more than happy with that. Their slip-up with the javelin shows, however, that the air up high is getting thinner and confirming their performance will be challenging next year.

When was the last time the Green Planet missed the podium? That was during 2010s very first Pentathlon. Only two medals is a low point for now, that really screams for correction.

#5 is ok and was probably the best they could do this year. They stayed stable and came within touching distance with P3D. And they managed to win yet another medal and keep this run alive.

They are probably one of the most stable teams in the competition over time. They are stoically getting the results, a bit better with the javelin, a bit worse in the City Run. This wins them #6 for the third time in a row and makes them a challenge for every team.

Their victory in the City Run probably means mission accomplished. #7 in the Overall Standings should be less relevant to them. That is one rank up compared to last year, also because they worked on their weak performance in last years Marathon.

They belong to the solid core of the top 10, even if it goes down one place this year. This means being on the lookout, because the contestants are pushing and that could result in falling out of the top 10 really quickly.

Their highlights surely were #6 in the Javelin Throw and their strong final spurt in the Sprint. With that, they could compensate their weak Marathon and even get an overall better result than last year. Since the mid-table is so close together, it was enough for the top 10. They cannot cool down next year.

After the great result last year, they could even step up their game this year. For the very first time in the top 10, and it could have even been better if it were not for their weak Sprint. Some exciting potential is growing on the southern hemisphere.

A top 10 rank is bon ton for AF, but again it did not work out. What is especially bitter is that they lost it on the finishing stretch. Otherwise, it was clearly visible that the Francophones are able to react. They really have to train with the javelin. Then the top 10 are reachable.

The Rechenkrafties never really got going this year. And when the performances with the javelin and in the City Run were weak, it became clear that it would go down a bit. Let us hope that they can actively join the battle for the top 10 again next year.

They bring home their best overall rank ever this year. They painted a patchy picture with a good performance with the javelin and a meagre one in the Marathon. It is a picture we already know. When they manage to get rid of their bloopers, or to better play out their strengths, it could really go upwards in the future.

Finally an upward trend and the Italians are back to their traditional regions. But the Javelin Throw will stay their problem child. With the Steeplechase, however, they could show their potential and finally got back into the top 10 in a single discipline.

#15 defended and mission accomplished? They managed to distribute their strengths in a smart way. The weak City Run prevented a better result. But with the javelin and in the City Run, they showed what they are made of.

Journée Finale 2e partie #résumons
Avec l'Ukraine, nous avons une nouvelle équipe à collecter des médailles dans l'histoire du Pentathlon. C'est particulièrement agréable, car l'Ukraine a participé chaque année. Cela vaut donc la peine de persévérer et de ne jamais abandonner.
TAAT continue à dominer et il serait souhaitable que l'or soit plus disputé. Mais nous ne nous ennuyons pas derrière. Six équipes ont décroché des médailles individuelles et le drame au Sprint montre que les choses sont toujours serrées, même au milieu du classement. Et même en queue de peloton, le suspense était total jusqu'au bout.
Comme d'habitude, voici le Classement général. Entre parenthèses, les places dans les disciplines individuelles dans l'ordre suivant: Marathon - Steeple-chase - Lancer de Javelot - Course Urbaine - Sprint. À cela s'ajoutent le classement de l'an dernier, le nombre total de participations et les infos sur les médailles individuelles et au général, triées par or-argent-bronze. Et bien sûr, comme toujours, mon commentaire personnel sur le top 15.
Médaille d'Or

Elle continue à jouer dans sa propre ligue. Elle n'est pas seulement aidée par la puissance brute, la concurrence, aussi, leur facilite trop les choses en étant trop irrégulière. Avec cette cinquième victoire consécutive, elle a ainsi égalé le précédent record établi par P3D.
Médaille d'Argent

Une médaille d'or continue à rester un rêve. Elle n'en était pas loin au Sprint, c'est donc possible. Le manque de constance à travers les épreuves a sans doute empêché l'obtention d'une ou deux médailles individuelles.
Médaille de Bronze

La première victoire en individuel et les deux premières médailles individuelles, auxquelles s'ajoute le bronze au général: l'équipe peut être plus que satisfaite. Mais le dérapage au Javelot montre aussi que l'air est plus rare en altitude et que ce sera un défi de confirmer cette performance l'an prochain.
4e place
Planet 3DNow! (3-3-4-6-4)

Quelle était la dernière fois où la Planète Verte n'était pas sur le podium au général? C'était en 2010, lors du tout premier Pentathlon. "Seulement" deux médailles sont un creux provisoire qui nécessite de toute urgence une correction.

La 5e place est OK, on ne pouvait sans doute pas faire mieux cette année. L'équipe est restée stable et a pris contact avec P3D. Et elle a réussi à décrocher une nouvelle médaille et à ne pas interrompre la série.
6e place
Czech National Team (6-6-5-8-6)

C'est une des équipes les plus stables de la compétition et dans le temps. Cette année encore, elle enchaîne les résultats avec un calme imperturbable, un peu mieux au Javelot, un peu moins bien à la Course Urbaine. Cela lui assure pour la troisième fois consécutive la 6e place et elle est donc un défi pour les autres équipes.
7e place
GPU Users Group (7-15-11-1-10)

Avec la victoire à la Course Urbaine, l'objectif semble rempli, la 7e place au classement général est sans doute moins pertinente. C'est une place de mieux que l'an dernier, entre autres parce qu'on a travaillé sur sa faiblesse de l'an dernier au Marathon.

Elle fait partie du noyau dur du top 10, même si elle descend un peu dans le classement cette année. Il s'agit de faire attention, car la concurrence se bouscule et on peut rapidement sortir du top 10.

Les points forts étaient certainement la 6e place au Lancer de Javelot et le finish éblouissant au Sprint. Cela lui a permis de compenser sa faiblesse au Marathon et de s'améliorer par rapport à l'an dernier. Comme le milieu du classement est serré comme jamais, cela a suffi pour le top 10. Mais elle ne devra pas se relâcher l'an prochain.
10e place
BOINC@AUSTRALIA (11-8-9-7-15)

Après son bon résultat l'an dernier, elle l'a encore amélioré cette année. La toute première fois dans le top 10, et elle aurait même pu faire mieux s'il n'y avait pas cette faiblesse au Sprint. Un potentiel intéressant est en train de grandir dans l'hémisphère sud.

Une place dans le top 10 est de bon ton chez l'AF, mais, une fois de plus, ça n'a pas marché. C'est particulièrement amer d'avoir été éliminé dans la dernière ligne droite. Car on pouvait voir par ailleurs que les Francophones étaient capables de riposter. Ils devraient vraiment s'entraîner au Javelot, ça les aidera à entrer dans le top 10.

Les gars et les filles de Rechenkraft n'ont pas vraiment réussi à prendre leur envol cette année. Comme les performances au Javelot et à la Course Urbaine ont également été moins bonnes, il était évident que le classement allait reculer un peu. Espérons qu'ils s'activeront à nouveau l'an prochain dans la bagarre pour le top 10.

Cette année, elle engrange son meilleur classement général de tous les temps. Ses performances ont été inégales: très bonnes au Javelot, mais plutôt médiocres au Marathon. Un tableau que nous connaissons déjà. Si elle arrive à éliminer les dérapages ou à s'améliorer dans ses forces, elle pourra nettement progresser à l'avenir.

L'équipe remonte enfin et les Italiens ont repris leur cours habituel. Le Lancer de Javelot reste toutefois un sujet de préoccupation. En revanche, au Steeple-chase, ils ont laissé entrevoir leur potentiel et ils ont enfin réussi à se classer à nouveau dans le top 10 dans une épreuve.

Rang 15 défendu, mission remplie? Ils ont judicieusement tenté de répartir une fois de plus leurs forces, et ils ont bien réussi. Leur faiblesse à la Course Urbaine a empêché un meilleur résultat, mais ils ont montré de quoi ils étaient capables au Javelot et au Sprint.

Abschlussbericht Teil 2 #fassenwirzusammen
Mit Ukraine haben wir ein neues Team, das in der Geschichte Edelmetall sammeln konnte. Das ist besonders schön, weil Ukraine an jedem Pentathlon teilgenommen hat. Es lohnt sich also, dranzubleiben und nie aufzugeben.
TAAT bleibt weiter dominant und es wäre zu wünschen, wenn Gold umkämpfter wäre. Doch dahinter haben wir keine Langeweile. Sechs Teams holten Einzelmedaillen und das Drama beim Sprint zeigt, dass es auch im vorderen Mittelfeld immer knapp zugeht. Und selbst am Ende des Feldes herrschte Spannung bis zum Ende.
Wie gewohnt folgen die Platzierungen in der Gesamtwertung. In Klammern die Plätze in den Einzeldisziplinen in der Reihenfolge Marathon-Jagdrennen-Speerwerfen-Stadtlauf-Sprint. Dazu wieder die Vorjahresplatzierung, Gesamtteilnahmen und die Info zu den Einzel- und Gesamtmedaillen, nach Gold, Silber und Bronze aufgeschlüsselt. Und natürlich wie gewohnt mein eigener Kommentar zu den Top 15.

Sie spielen weiter in einer eigenen Liga. Dabei hilft ihnen nicht nur die schiere Power, auch die Konkurrenz macht es ihnen zu einfach, indem sie zu inkonstant ist. Mit dem fünften Sieg in Serie stellten sie damit auch die bisherige Bestmarke von P3D ein.
Silbermedaille

Eine Goldmedaille ist weiter nur ein Traum. Beim Sprint war man nicht weit weg, es ist also möglich. Die etwas fehlende Konstanz über die Disziplinen hinweg verhinderte wohl die eine oder andere Einzelmedaille.
Bronzemedaille

Der erste Einzelsieg und die ersten drei Einzelmedaillen, dazu Gesamtbronze, da kann man mehr als zufrieden sein. Der Ausrutscher beim Speerwerfen zeigt aber, dass die Luft in der Höhe dünner und das Bestätigen der Leistung im nächsten Jahr eine Herausforderung sein wird.
Platz 4
Planet 3DNow! (3-3-4-6-4)
Vorjahr: #3 / Teilnahmen insgesamt: 17 / Einzelmedaillen: 65 (18
Wann stand der Grüne Planet das letzte Mal nicht auf dem Gesamtpodium? Das war 2010, beim allerersten Pentathlon. Nur zwei Medaillen sind ein vorläufiger Tiefpunkt, der dringend einer Korrektur bedarf.
