Pioneer in rackmount server hardware to offer new family of Atlas server systems built on AMD’s newest family of server processors to better handle the most demanding applications and data center workloads.
REDMOND, WASH. (PRWEB) NOVEMBER 26, 2019
Pogo Linux, a leading supplier of rackmount servers for the modern data center, today unveiled six single-socket and dual-socket systems based on the newest AMD EPYC™ processor, code-named “Rome”. The redesigned Atlas AMD Servers will take advantage of Rome’s features that focus on high-performance computing, multi-cloud implementation, virtualization and data-intensive workloads at the edge. The new Pogo Linux AMD EPYC™ servers are now shipping in volume across the company’s entire Atlas server product lineup.
AMD has made significant changes to their CPU architecture which help deliver twice the number of cores and threads than the previous Zen architecture. Compared to the ‘Naples’ processor architecture, Zen 2 has 32 billion transistors, which makes it one of the most densely-packed chip design ever developed. Code-named “Rome”, the 2nd-generation AMD CPUs are the first x86 processors to market based on 7 nanometer (nm) technology. While lowering power consumption and improving instructions per cycle, the 7-nm core process technology has doubled the density with up to 64 cores and up to 128 threads.
Users of Pogo Linux AMD EPYC™ 7002 Series powered servers will experience higher clock speeds for enterprise and data center workloads. Atlas servers built on AMD’s newest family of server processors will better handle the most demanding applications and data center needs, including artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, high-performance computing (HPC), cloud computing, virtualization, software-defined infrastructure, and big data analytics than previous “Naples” EPYC™ servers.
Known for delivering best-in-class performance with a lower total cost of ownership, Pogo Linux Atlas AMD server systems have provided the processing backbone for a broad range of IT applications and workloads since 1999. The refreshed server line of Atlas 1U thru 4U single- and dual-processor systems equipped with AMD EPYC™ 7002 Series Processors highlight:
Advanced CPU Architecture – Built using Zen 2 high-performance cores and AMD’s innovative Chiplet architecture.

  • 2X the Performance with up 64 cores – With up to 64 cores, AMD EPYC™ delivers up to 2X the performance of competing x86 server CPUs
  • More Energy-Efficient – 7nm technology reduces the size of each CPU core to enjoy the same core-performance with roughly-half the energy consumption
“We’re excited and thankful to have Pogo Linux supporting the launch of AMD EPYC™ 7002 Series Processors,” said Scott Aylor, corporate vice president and general manager, Datacenter Solutions Group, AMD. “Their Atlas EPYC™ based solutions are poised to deliver a new standard for modern datacenter customers. With twice the cores, breakthrough performance and embedded security protection, all delivered by a leadership architecture, customers can transform their datacenter operations at the pace of their business.”
“Pogo Linux has a long history of building systems featuring AMD processors going back to the first Athlon and Opteron processors,” said Chris Stevenson, VP Sales & Product Development for Pogo Linux. “Our customers have been asking for upgrades to their existing AMD systems and the new EPYC™ processors are a huge leap forward. The high core counts and large memory capabilities enable us to build compute-dense Atlas server designs for HPC and Internet customers with applications requiring it for key tasks and caches.”
The redesigned Pogo Linux Atlas servers include four 1U models with single-socket or dual-socket options, and two 2U models with dual-socket system configurations. The price for the 1U models is around $1,800, while the 2U models start at $2,800. All are standard rackmount chassis form-factors and are available now. About Atlas Server Systems
The Pogo Linux Atlas product line of AMD servers are designed to meet the high-performance computing (HPC), embedded security, and performance value to address modern data center workloads. Featuring 2nd-generation AMD EPYC™ processors, Atlas servers enable highly-dense computing with support for up to 64 high-performance cores and up to 128 threads per socket. The Atlas server family’s ‘secure by design’ CPU architecture with embedded security and pervasive encryption protects the CPU, data and applications, including up to 500 virtual machines. Experience exceptional performance for value from double the core and thread counts which means a single-socket Atlas AMD EPYC™ server exceeds the performance-per-socket of a comparable legacy dual-socket server. All Atlas server systems include pre-installed commercial or free Linux distribution operating systems and come with a three-year warranty.
