The Binary Radio Pulsar Search on Einstein@Home will catch up with the avaliable Arecibo data in about a month. It is estimated that we will then process data from Arecibo roughly at the rate at whic it is taken, which is about 50 beams/d. This will occupy less than a third of our current processing capacity (~160 bemas/d).

We will use the remaining computing power to search for new Radio Pulsars in the data of the Pakes "Perseus Arm Survey", an extension of the "Parkes Multi-Beam Pulsar Survey" (PMPS) along one "arm" of our galaxy.

For this new search will set up (yet) another application (einsteinbinary_BRP5), in parallel to the existing one (einsteinathome_BRP4). The tasks will run about 5h on current GPUs, there will be no CPU version. The application binaries will be the same as the BRP4 ones. We are currently testing the new application over at Albert@Home to determine and adjust runtime estimation, credit, memory footprint etc.

Google translate:

Bernd Machenschalk schrieb:
BRP5 credit definitely requires some more investigation and thinking, more than we have time for now. For the time being I raised the credit to 5000 for newly generated BRP5 workunits.

Generation of BRP4 workunits has been disabled alltogether, what's already there will be sent out and processed by GPUs. (In a few days BRP4 workunit generation will be reconfigured and the remaining Arecibo data will be processd by slower CPUs.)

Bernd Machenschalk schrieb:
Technical News:Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo) "BRP4" - unbundled

As BRR4 these days only runs on CPUs (and possibly slow ones), we have decided to switch back from "bundled" to "single-DM" Wus (one WU per dispersion measure).

This means that the BRP4 tasks generated from now on will run 1/8 of before, takes 1/8 of disk space and give 1/8 of the previous credit.

So overall nothing should change for you out there.

Gamma-ray pulsar search "FGRP2" (CPU-Work bei Einstein) ab sofort etwa 10-fache Berechnungszeit!
Bernd Machenschalk schrieb:
Technical News:Fermi LAT Gamma-ray pulsar search "FGRP2" - longer

Similar to what we already did with the Radio Pulsar search we will soon re-tune the runtime of the Fermi LAT Gamma-ray pulsar search tasks. We reduced the runtime of the BRP4 tasks to make it better suitable for slower devices; now we will enlarge the runtimes of the FGRP tasks to make these (more) suitable for faster devices (such as GPUs).

The new tasks that will be sent out later this week will run about 10x as long as the current ones, of course flops estimation, credit etc. will be adjusted accordingly.
