Day 9 - 13 May 2021 - A shining day​

The first decision was made. It seemed to take an eternity this year, but now the first teams can hold the coveted precious metal in their hands. Additionally, the last discipline was announced. The Sprint may also decide over the outcome of this Pentathlon.

But until then, days full of hardship lie ahead of our teams. Nobody can afford any misstep anymore now, time is running out fast, powers perhaps even faster. Today we may take a breath, but the calm is deceiving. Preparations for the next Javelin Throw are underway at the teams, which should clear a few things up tomorrow. But now I turn to the current events.

City Run (PrimeGrid)
TAAT win Gold with superior ease and thus take home their second Gold medal ever. They fired up a turbo on the last day which drained even the Whiskey supplies of TSBT. The Scots however may celebrate a Silver win. Place 3 went to P3D, narrowly before SG who went away only with Iron despite a fulminant end spurt. Congratulations to the three medalists.

CNT leisurely pass the finish line in #5. Place 6 is taken by RKN in the end, who outmaneuvered [H] on the final day and pushed them off to #7. Next up, LTT (#8) and AF (#9) reach the finish; both had a calm last day. ISWT however reached the end of their powers, and only #13 was in it for them. Place 10 was snagged by 2ch who held their own with an end spurt even against OCN (#11) and EVGA (#12). Next, BOINC.Italy took hold of #14, deciding the duel with BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#15) in their favor.

UBT (#16), AMD Users (#17), and LITOMYSL (#18) could jog over the finish line with ease as well. The duel between Ukraine and Pfalz was decided in favor of the former who were awarded #19. The Palatines couldn't keep up in the end anymore and are landing in #20, which is but still an excellent result for the small team. Crystal Dream tried to intervene, but in the end #21 was the maximum.

The photo finish camera took BOINCstats's snapshot (#22) just a blink of an eye before BOINC@Poland (#23). At the end of the field, Meisterkühler settled for #24, even though Team China (#25) made one last attempt to advance, in vain. Chinese Dream followed in #26 and Russia in #27.

Marathon (SiDock@home)
The teams have found their pace on the long track and are now trying to secure their rankings. There is not much movement in the field. P3D are slowly increasing their lead, and it remains to be seen if TAAT will still strike back. The outcome could become critical in the battle for overall victory. SG (#4) fall further back from TSBT (#3) and are at risk that precious metal slips out of their grasp.

[H] (#8) won two places, pushing past AF (#9) and ISWT (#10). The Scientists continue to lose ground quickly and have to be prepared for pursuers catching up. A lively game of musical chairs is going on about #13. Crystal Dream are in front, followed by 2ch (#14), and OCN (#15). There are no changes afterwards, which is why I quickly switch disciplines.

Cross Country (Einstein@Home)
Half time on the Wild West track. It seems P3D hurried out of anyone's reach, and #2 can hardly be taken away from TAAT anymore either. But there is currently a lot in motion behind. TSBT ran up to #3 and bumped BOINC@AUSTRALIA onto #4. The Kangaroos keep hanging tough but have to watch out for [H] (#5) and SG (#6). Both certainly still have something to show, which could become a problem for the Australians.

OCN (#7) dropped down by one too. RKN (#8), LTT (#9), CNT (#10), AF (#11), and BOINC@Poland (#12) are maintaining their rankings and distances quite constantly. Less excitement is happening further back. Ukraine (#13) cannot shed EVGA (#14) and need to keep the pace up. ISWT accelerated to #15 and pulled UBT (#16) along in the wake. Both are on the move at a constant speed now and might even take aim for #13 yet. Owing to Chinese Dream's (#18) rather weak performance, BOINC.Italy were able to hold #17. But for more there would have to be more to come.

Team China seem content with #19; quite the meager diet with which the Red Dragon is putting up with there. Further on, LITOMYSL (#20) and 2ch (#21) pushed Crystal Dream into #22, but the speed is not sufficient for additional overtakes yet. They need to turn it up over there. The contestants behind appear to be satisfied with the rankings for now, because neither AMD Users (#23), BOINCstats (#24), Meisterkühler (#25), Russia (#26), nor Pfalz (#27) show any moves to improve their situation.

Overall Standings
Tomorrow we will likely gain a better overview of the balances of power in the overall standings. Until then, TAAT continue to lead clearly, ahead of P3D and SG. The Germans lost their buffer of points against TSBT (#4) though, making an overall medal a real challenge.

LTT keep on holding on to #5 and built up a small advantage over [H] (#6). It's still skintight between RKN (#7), CNT (#8), BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#9), and AF (#10). 2ch however are working their way up, now in #11. ISWT suffered and is now found in #12.

OCN (#13), EVGA (#14), Ukraine (#15), BOOINC.Italy (#16), AMD Users (#17), and BOINC@Poland (#18) are following. This group is certainly going to look differently tomorrow due to the Javelin Throw. UBT are securing #19 because Crystal Dream (#20) are losing ground. This way the Dreamers are coming into biting range of Team China (#21).

LITOMYSL are building #22 into a fortress and might hope that BOINCstats (#23) are not posing a threat. Chinese Dream are to be found merely in #24, followed by the Meisterkühlers (#25), Pfalz (#26), and Russia (#27).

Slowly the hot phase of decision is beginning, which will bring us answers to our questions too:

- Which decisions are made tomorrow at the Javelin?
- Can SG come back at the Marathon?
- Can Australia beat the Scots at Cross Country?

You see it remains exciting at the BOINC Pentathlon.

Tag 9 - 13.05.2021 - Ein glänzender Tag​

Die erste Entscheidung ist gefallen. Es scheint in diesem Jahr ewig gedauert haben, aber jetzt können die ersten Teams das begehrte Edelmetall in den Händen halten. Dazu ist die letzte Disziplin bekannt gegeben worden. Beim Sprint wird der Pentathlon wohl dann auch entschieden.

Bis dahin liegen aber noch Tage voller Entbehrung vor unseren Teams. Jetzt darf sich niemand mehr einen Fehltritt erlauben, die Zeit schwindet schnell, die Kräfte vielleicht schneller. Heute können wir etwas durchatmen, doch die Ruhe ist trügerisch. Bei den Teams laufen die Vorbereitungen für den nächsten Wurf beim Speer, der wohl das eine oder andere am morgigen Tag klären wird. Doch nun wende ich mich dem aktuellen Geschehen zu.

Stadtlauf (PrimeGrid)
Souverän gewinnt TAAT Gold und holt somit seine zweite Goldmedaille überhaupt. Am letzten Tag zündeten sie einen Turbo, der selbst die Whiskyvorräte von TSBT trocken legte. Die Schotten dürfen sich aber auf Silber freuen. Platz 3 holte sich P3D, nur knapp vor SG, denen am Ende trotz fulminanten Endspurts nur Blech bleibt. Herzlichen Glückwunsch an die drei Medaillengewinner.

CNT geht locker auf #5 durchs Ziel. Platz 6 sichert sich am Ende RKN, die [H] am Schlusstag auskonterten und auf #7 schoben. Dahinter gingen LTT (#8) und AF (#9) durchs Ziel, beide hatten am Ende einen geruhsamen Tag. Dagegen war ISWT am Ende aller Kräfte und so blieb nur #13. Platz 10 schnappte sich 2ch, die mit ihrem Schlussspurt auch OCN (#11) und EVGA (#12) Paroli bieten konnten. Dahinter holte sich BOINC.Italy #14 und konnte somit das Duell mit BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#15) für sich entscheiden.

Gemächlich ins Ziel konnten auch UBT (#16), AMD Users (#17) und LITOMYSL (#18) traben. Das Duell zwischen der Ukraine und der Pfalz entschied die Ukraine für sich und wurde mit #19 belohnt. Die Pfälzer konnten am Ende nicht mehr mithalten und landen auf #20, was aber immer noch eine hervorragende Platzierung für das kleine Team darstellt. Zwar versuchte Crystal Dream sich da noch einzumischen, doch letztlich war #21 das Maximum. Das Fotofinisch machte #22 für BOINCstats klar, nur einen Wimpernschlag vor BOINC@Poland (#23). Am Ende des Feldes gaben sich die Meisterkühler mit #24 zufrieden, auch wenn Team China (#25) noch einen letzten vergeblichen Versuch wagte sich zu verbessern. Chinese Dream folge auf #26 und Russia auf #27.

Marathon (SiDock@home)
Auf der langen Strecke haben die Teams ihr Tempo gefunden und versuchen nun ihre Platzierung abzusichern. Viel Bewegung ist nicht im Feld. P3D baut den Vorsprung langsam weiter aus und es bleibt abzuwarten, ob TAAT (#2) hier noch zurückschlägt. Für den Kampf um den Gesamtsieg könnte der Ausgang sehr bedeutend sein. SG (#4) lässt weiter auf TSBT (#3) abreißen und das Edelmetall droht nun durch die Finger zu gleiten.

Zwei Plätze gewonnen hat [H] (#8), die sich an AF (#9) und ISWT (#10) geschoben haben. Die Wissenschaftler verlieren weiter schnell an Boden und müssen davon ausgehen, dass die Verfolger aufschließen werden. Um #13 findet ein munteres Platz-wechsel-dich-Spiel statt. Derzeit hat Crystal Dream die Nase vorn, gefolgt von 2ch (#14) und OCN (#15). Dahinter gibt es keine Veränderungen, deshalb wechsle ich schnell mal die Disziplin.

Querfeldein (Einstein@Home)
Halbzeit auf der Wildweststrecke. P3D scheint uneinholbar enteilt und auch TAAT scheint #2 kaum noch zu nehmen sein. Doch dahinter ist gerade viel Bewegung. TSBT hat sich auf #3 gelaufen und BOINC@AUSTRALIA auf #4 geschoben. Die Kängurus halten sich weiter wacker, müssen aber auf [H] (#5) und SG (#6) achten. Beide werden wohl sicher noch was zeigen und das könnte für die Australier ein Problem werden.

Einen Platz nach hinten ging es auch für OCN (#7). RKN (#8), LTT (#9), CNT (#10), AF (#11) und BOINC@Poland (#12) halten ihre Platzierungen und Abstände recht konstant. Dahinter geht es nicht so unaufgeregt zu. Die Ukraine (#13) kann nämlich EVGA (#14) nicht abschütteln und muss so weiter das Tempo hochhalten. ISWT hat auf #15 beschleunigt und UBT (#16) im Windschatten mitgezogen. Beide sind derzeit konstant schnell und könnten so auch noch #13 ins Visier nehmen. Da Chinese Dream (#18) arg schwächelt, konnte BOINC.Italy #17 halten. Aber für mehr muss auch mehr kommen.

Team China scheint mit #19 zufrieden zu sein, ist schon sehr magere Kost, mit der sich der rote Drache da zufrieden gibt. Dahinter haben LITOMYSL (#20) und 2ch (#21) Crystal Dream auf #22 geschoben, aber das Tempo reicht für weitere Überholmanöver noch nicht aus. Da muss nachgelegt werden. Dahinter scheint man mit den Platzierungen vorerst zufrieden, denn weder AMD Users (#23) noch BOINCstats (#24), Meisterkühler (#25), Russia (#26) oder die Pfalz (#27) machen Anstalten, ihre Situation zu verbessern.

Gesamtwertung
Morgen werden wir wahrscheinlich einen etwas besseren Überblick über die Kräfteverhältnisse in der Gesamtwertung bekommen. Bis dahin führt TAAT weiter klar, vor P3D und SG. Die Deutschen haben aber ihren Punktevorrat auf TSBT (#4) eingebüßt, sodass die Gesamtmedaille eine echte Herausforderung ist.

LTT hält sich weiter auf #5 und hat nun einen kleinen Vorsprung auf [H] (#6). Hauteng geht es weiter zwischen RKN (#7), CNT (#8), BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#9) und AF (#10) zu. 2ch arbeitet sich dagegen weiter nach vorne, jetzt auf #11. IWST ist Leidtragender und nun auf #12 zu finden.

Es folgen OCN (#13), EVGA (#14), Ukraine (#15), BOINC.Italy (#16), AMD Users (#17) und BOINC@Poland (#18). Durch den Speer wird die Gruppe sicher morgen etwas anders aussehen. UBT sichert dahinter #19 ab, da Crystal Dream (#20) Boden verliert. Damit kommen die Träumer in Bissreichweite von Team China (#21).

LITOMYSL baut #22 zur Festung aus und wird hoffen, dass BOINCstats (#23) keine Bedrohung darstellt. Chinese Dream ist nur noch auf #24 zu finden, gefolgt von den Meisterkühlern (#25), Pfalz (#26) und Russia (#27).

Langsam beginnt die heiße Phase der Entscheidung und diese wird uns auch Antworten auf unsere Fragen geben:

- Welche Entscheidungen fallen morgen beim Speer?
- Kann SG beim Marathon zurückkommen?
- Kann Australia die Schotten beim Querfeldein schlagen?
