Final Report 19 May 2024 That Was It.​

The 15th BOINC Pentathlon is over. Two weeks full of excitement, fun, and stress. As it is custom, the analysis of the disciplines Marathon and Steeplechase comes first. And, as usual, the second part takes a look at the overall standings.

Interestingly, there were more movement and battles for position on the long-distance track than in the Steeplechase on the final day. Some teams even deliberately attacked at the and in some cases were successful.

Steeplechase (MilkyWay@home)
TAAT takes gold by a clear margin. At first, it looked like there might be a chance to beat them, but they quickly made everything clear. Silver goes to P3D, who dashed SG's hopes of winning silver on the final day. However, SG will be very happy with bronze. Congratulations!

LTT crossed the finish line in #4 and CNT (#5) behind them did not break a sweat either. On the other hand, [H] (#6) had to fend off the advances from GPUUG (#7), but remained ahead without any major problems in the end. Ukraine secured #8 on the final day and thus was able to keep NoTEAM (#9) and AF (#10) behind them.

A final spurt from SUSA (#11) and TC (#12) did not materialise either, so things endet rather calmly in this part of the ranking. Behind them, RKN secured #13, in part because BOINC.Italy (#14) did not find any more opportunities to attack. Behind them, OCN feared a move by BOINC@AUSTRALIA, but since this did not happen, OCN can celebrate #15 and the Australians remain in #16.

AMD Users (#17) and MK (#18) did not swap places either. The chasers seem to have run out of energy here as well. There was much more movement behind them. LITOMYSL ignited the turbo in the forest and was rewarded with #19. Crunching@EVGA (#20) and TFFE (#21) could only watch in astonishment.

While Chinese Dream calmly crossed the finish line in #22, BS and UBT chased each other for #23 right to the end. In the end, BS (#23) stayed very narrowly ahead of UBT (#24). Things were equally close behind them. Russia made it to the finish line in #25. B^S once again tried everything, but in the end it was not enough to pass the Russians. And at the very bottom, Crystal Dream waves from #27 again.

Marathon (PrimeGrid: only subproject Cullen Prime Search LLR (CUL))
TAAT ahead of P3D and SG is the result for the fourth time this year. The positions were quickly set and none of the trio showed any weaknesses. Congratulations for that.

[H] (#4) was the closest to them, but they were lacking that little bit. Behind them, CNT once again delivered a solid performance in #5, but was unable to match the pace at the top. LTT finished surprisingly far behind in #6. Maybe that was the price they had to pay for bronze in the City Run?

#7 is firmly booked this year, GPUUG seems to be really fixated on it. As they were able to build a cushion early on, the skirmish between NoTEAM (#8) and SUSA (#9) was no longer a threat. Both were still setting a brisk pace, but the rookies kept up and thus kept SUSA behind them.

AF was unable to keep up, but defended #10. Ukraine (#11) could no longer pose a threat to AF, but was still under fierce attack from RKN. But in the end the track was probably too short. Things got heated on the last for metres for #13. AMD Users secured #13 with a strong final day, taking TC (#14) by surprise. This also won them their best rank in any discipline this year.

MK secured #15, even though BOINC.Italy (#16) was trying to crash the party on time, but failed to do so. Crunching@EVGA made very clear in the end who owns #17. Their strong excess of pace left Chinese Dream (#18) with no chance.

There were no more surprises further down the ranking. OCN in #19 ahead of BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#20). B^S (#21) significantly accelerated in the end, but the gap was simply too large. As everything was clear for LITOMYSL (#22) early on, they just coasted to the finish line. Somehow the Marathon was not their discipline this year.

BS (#23) kept TFFE (#24) at bay, while UBT (#25) finished well behind. Unfortunately, Russia and Crystal Dream did not show up for the Marathon, otherwise there could have been even more suspense at the bottom of the ranking.

Abschlussbericht 19.05.2024 Das war's.​

Der 15. BOINC Pentathlon ist zu Ende. Zwei Wochen voller Spannung, Spaß und Stress. Wie immer gibt es als Erstes die Auswertung in den Disziplinen Marathon und Jagdrennen. Und wie gewohnt im zweiten Teil den Blick auf die Gesamtwertung.

Interessant war, dass am Schlusstag auf der Langstrecke mehr Bewegung und Positionskämpfe stattfanden als beim Jagdrennen. Einige Teams haben sogar bewusst am Ende noch attackiert und konnte stellenweise auch Erfolge verzeichnen.

Jagdrennen (MilkyWay@home)
Gold holt sich deutlich TAAT. Am Anfang sah es noch so aus, als gäbe es eine Chance, doch das haben sie schnell klargestellt. Silber geht an P3D, die am Schlusstag SG die Hoffnung auf Silber zerstörten. Doch SG wird mit Bronze sehr zufrieden sein. Herzlichen Glückwunsch!

LTT geht auf #4 durchs Ziel und auch CNT (#5) kam dahinter nicht mehr ins Schwitzen. [H] (#6) dagegen musste sich den Avancen von GPUUG (#7) erwehren, blieb aber am Ende ohne große Probleme vorn. Die Ukraine sicherte am Schlusstag #8 ab und konnte so NoTEAM (#9) und AF (#10) hinter sich halten.

Auch ein Endspurt von SUSA (#11) und TC (#12) blieb aus und so endete es in diesem Bereich eher ruhig. Dahinter sicherte RKN #13, auch weil BOINC.Italy (#14) keine Möglichkeiten mehr fand, noch zu attackieren. Dahinter befürchtete OCN noch ein Manöver von BOINC@AUSTRALIA, doch da dies ausblieb, kann sich OCN über #15 freuen und für die Australier bleibt #16.

Keine Veränderungen gab es auch zwischen AMD Users (#17) und MK (#18). Auch hier scheint dem Verfolger etwas die Energie ausgegangen zu sein. Deutlich mehr Bewegung war dahinter zu sehen. LITOMYSL zündete noch den Turbo im Wald und wurde mit #19 belohnt. Da konnten Crunching@EVGA (#20) und TFFE (#21) nur verdutzt zuschauen.

Während Chinese Dream in aller Ruhe auf #22 ins Ziel kam, wurde bis zuletzt zwischen BS und UBT um #23 gejagt. Am Ende hielt sich BS (#23) sehr knapp vor UBT (#24). Nicht minder knapp endete es dahinter. Hier rettete sich Russia auf #25 ins Ziel. B^S versuchte abermals alles, aber es reichte am Ende nicht, um die Russen noch zu überholen. Und am Ende winkt wieder Crystal Dream von #27.

Marathon (PrimeGrid: nur das Subprojekt Cullen Prime Search LLR (CUL))
TAAT vor P3D und vor SG ist zum vierten Mal das Ergebnis in diesem Jahr. Die Positionen waren schnell bezogen und keiner aus dem Trio offenbarte einen Schwachpunkt. Dafür herzlichen Glückwunsch.

Am nächsten dran war noch [H] (#4), doch es fehlte das berühmte Quäntchen. Dahinter lieferte CNT mit #5 wieder eine solide Leistung ab, konnte aber nicht das Tempo der Spitze mitgehen. Überraschend deutlich dahinter kam LTT auf #6 ins Ziel. War das vielleicht der Preis, den man für Bronze beim Stadtlauf zahlen musste?

#7 ist in diesem Jahr fest gebucht, GPUUG scheint echt fixiert darauf zu sein. Da man sich früh einen Puffer herausarbeiten konnte, war auch das Scharmützel zwischen NoTEAM (#8) und SUSA (#9) keine Gefahr mehr. Beide legten noch ein flottes Tempo an den Tag, doch die Rookies hielten dagegen und so SUSA hinter sich.

AF konnte da nicht mithalten und verteidigte aber #10. Die Ukraine (#11) konnte AF nicht mehr gefährlich werden, wurde aber noch heftig von RKN attackiert. Doch am Ende war wohl die Strecke zu kurz. Heiß her ging es auf den letzten Metern um #13. Die AMD Users sicherten sich mit einem starken Schlusstag #13 und überrumpelten so noch TC (#14). Damit holten sie auch die beste Einzelplatzierung in diesem Jahr.

MK sicherten #15 ab, auch wenn BOINC.Italy (#16) noch pünktlich die Party crashen wollten, was aber nicht gelang. Crunching@EVGA stellte am Schluss deutlich klar, wem #17 gehört. Mit einem deutlichen Tempoüberschuss ließen sie Chinese Dream (#18) keine Chance.

Auf den folgenden Plätzen gab es dann keine Überraschungen mehr. OCN auf #19 vor BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#20). B^S (#21) beschleunigte am Ende zwar noch deutlich, doch der Abstand war einfach zu groß. Da für LITOMYSL (#22) früh alles klar war, ließ man es ganz langsam auslaufen. Irgendwie war der Marathon in diesem Jahr nicht ihre Disziplin.

BS (#23) hielt TFFE (#24) in Schach, wogegen UBT (#25) mit deutlichem Abstand ins Ziel kam. Leider waren Russia und Crystal Dream nicht zum Marathon erschienen, sonst hätte es am Ende des Feldes noch mehr Spannung geben können.
