Day 7 - 11 May 2021 - Off to the boondocks​

Cross Country started as fourth discipline, and the third day of Javelin is over. Since there is not a lot going on at the Marathon, I omit it today and look closer at the Javelin. This one stays suspenseful and is offering a lot of options for the next days.

Javelin Throw (WCG - Microbiome Immunity Project)
The third throw is over and the fourth one scheduled. It is still open when day 5 will take place. But exactly this could become decisive. If the last two days are placed too close together, it will be tough to get the maximum out of the last day. Yet this is what some teams have to take into account. But one thing at a time.

TAAT are leading the field and keep us guessing. The first throw had been left far behind by the other throws which were really strong. That way they are possibly forcing SG (#2) and TSBT (#15) to perform two more strong throws. This is a good tactical position into which TAAT threw themselves. A single additional strong throw is sufficient for them, whereas SG and TSBT have to throw twice and therefore pull forces off of other projects. SG need to confirm yesterday's throw two more times in order to get hold of Silver or Bronze in the end. This is also true for TSBT who have it in their own hands with yesterday's throw whether or not to win Silver.

2ch are still to be found in #3, but this is about to change with the next attempt. It was another personal record for the Japanese yesterday, but they are hard to figure out. This is also true for LTT (#4). They were very strong yesterday, and it is uncertain whether or not they can (or want to) confirm this twice. If so, a good placement in the top 10 will be the result.

Still in #5, P3D may bag Gold with the next throw already. It is hard to imagine that the Green Planet would become reckless in triumph. BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#6) however will fall further behind, probably towards rank 12 or 13. [H] on the other hand made it clear yesterday that they want to hold #7 and maybe are even looking further ahead. Whether they will need one or two more attempts for this will depend on the competitors and will be decided by the next throw.

It will be a challenge for ISWT (#9) too to get into the top 10, because AF (#9) and RKN (#10) need only one more strong throw to get past. EVGA (#11) and Team China (#12) and the AMD Users (#13) will have to adjust if they don't want to be pushed far back. But CNT (#14) and TSBT (#15) are still going to advance by a lot. While the Scots throw for Silver, this is too far for the Czechs. But a top 7 rank should be in the cards. In #16, OCN are going downhill from throw to throw and are difficult to gauge. They should at least keep BOINC@Poland (#17) at bay.

BOINC.Italy (#18) will probably risk another throw or could annoy OCN with two throws. BOINCstats (#19) will probably reach the finish after the Italians, and an improved placement can be ruled out for UBT (#20) too. To the contrary. One of the reasons is Ukraine who showed yesterday that they want more than #21. But there are also threats from behind. I am not referring to Crystal Dream (#22) and Russia (#23) though. Both will as a matter of fact fall victim to Chinese Dream (#24), Meisterkühler (#25), and LITOMYSL (#26). The trio looks like it will perform a vehement hop ahead, at which the Chinese will gain most. In the end, Pfalz will conclude this contest in #27.

Once or twice, this is the question posed to the teams. Two throws cost power in other disciplines but can yield some real points here. This trade-off remains the big challenge for the teams. In the end it will come down to a great showdown on the fifth day.

Cross Country (Einstein@Home)
We are out and about into the backcountry from today on. And P3D went off like lightning here. The other teams can't get lost now, even the blind can easily see, errm smell, the skid marks. After P3D, TAAT are waiting for the chance for overall victory, and besides they strongly accelerated in the past hour. Can they still catch up with the Green Planet?

OCN (#3) are off to a good start too, but it remains to be seen if this holds. This shall yet be proven by BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#4) too. Danger from behind is arising in the likeness of [H] (#5), TSBT (#6), and SG (#7). The trio did not yet show everything and needs to speed up in order to avoid losses in the overall standings. LTT (#8) and RKN (#9) are engaged in hot infighting, which CNT (#10) are eyeing from some distance. Surely the Czechs will accelerate eventually, #10 is not befitting them. Afterwards, Chinese Dream (#11) are getting under pressure, AF (#12) are becoming fired up now.

BOINC@Poland slipped somewhat, but can secure #13 still before ISWT (#14) and EVGA (#15). Ukraine (#16) and BOINC.Italy (#17) too can't follow along. Crystal Dream (#18) are making a splash right now. A fulminant spurt in the last hour let them advance through several ranks. Let's see if this remains just a short one-hit wonder or develops into more. LITOMYSL (#19), UBT (#20), and Team China (#21) could, if they wanted to, reduce the distance in front. 2ch (#22), AMD Users (#23), BOINCstats (#24), Meisterkühler (#25), and Russia (#26) are moving too slow for this. At the end of the field, Pfalz (#27) are enjoying the countryside, probably with a fine wine.

City Run (PrimeGrid)
This classic is approaching the home stretch, just 36 hours more. TAAT are close to victory but must not let off because TSBT (#2) are keeping up the pressure. P3D on the other hand seem to have resigned to end up in #3. And they can, because SG in #4 do not look like a threat anymore. [H] have a good chance to cross the finish line in #5, but RKN fired up the turbo and accelerated to #6. It remains to be seen whether this is sufficient to further gain on #5 or CNT (#7) can strike back. A hot fight for #8 will probably ensue between AF (#8), LTT (#9), and ISWT (#10). LTT are coming along nicely and threaten the teams in front, whereas ISWT are currently on a weak streak.

This could be the chance for 2ch (#11) or OCN (#12) to slip into the top ten. Even EVGA (#13), BOINC.Italy (#14), and BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#25) were faster than ISWT during the past 24 h. Since the distances are not too large, we might experience an exciting final day here. UBT (#16) and AMD Users (#17) merely appear to maintain their positions. There is no pressure from behind; LITOMYSL (#18) seem to hope that the advantage over Pfalz (#19) is big enough. A very risky strategy.

The Ukraine (#20) had to relinquish a rank and hope that the duel behind is not damaging to themselves. BOINCstats (#21) and BOINC@Poland (#22) are not giving each other a pause and are tied up in a neck-and-neck race, into which Crystal Dream (#23) wants to join in too now. Meisterkühler (#24) will fight with Team China (#25) for #24. Chinese Dream (#26) and Russia (#27) appear too far away for that.

Overall Standings
TAAT are still leading the Pentathlon, which does not appear to be about to change until Friday. By then, P3D (#2) will at least be significantly closer. Friday could be the day for SG, who are currently holding #3, on which dreams of a medal are shattered, because TSBT (#4) will probably rake in serious points at the Javelin. Still superbly on their way are LTT in #5, [H] in #6, and RKN in #7. BOINC@AUSTRALIA are currently finding themselves in #8, but potentially significant losses are looming at Javelin and Cross Country, from which AF (#9), ISWT (#10), and CNT (#11) might profit. These three can still busily gather some points too.

OCN (#12) are profiting from the superb start at Cross Country; it remains to be seen if they can uphold this. Otherwise, 2ch (#13) are standing by for overtake. A small gap opens afterwards, but which could be closed again still. EVGA (#14), BOINC.Italy (#15), Ukraine (#16), AMD Users (#17), and BOINC@Poland (#18) are divided by merely a few points, and the result of Javelin will further compress the field. Crystal Dream (#19) and UBT (#20) are forming a hot duo afterwards, just like Team China (#21) and Chinese Dream (#22). LITOMYSL (#23) might still intrude on the Chinese rendezvous, let's see if they like to. BOINCstats (#24) and Meisterkühler (#25) might still join in too, but would have to step on the pedal now to do so. Pfalz fell to #26 again, but at least a good City Run is keeping them away from Russia (#27).

Instead of answers, more and more new questions:

- Are TAAT still in reach at City Run?
- Are SG striking back at Marathon?
- Will this Pentathlon be decided on the very last day?

Tag 7 - 11.05.2021 - Ab durch die Pampa​

Mit dem Querfeldein ist die vierte Disziplin gestartet und der dritte Tag beim Speer ist vorüber. Da beim Marathon weiter nicht viel los ist, lasse ich ihn heute aus und schaue mir den Speer genauer an. Der ist weiter spannend und bietet eine Menge Optionen für die nächsten Tage.

Speerwerfen (WCG - Microbiome Immunity Project)
Der dritte Wurf ist vorbei und der vierte terminiert. Noch ist offen, wann Tag 5 stattfindet. Doch gerade das könnte entscheidend werden. Wenn die letzten beiden Tage zu eng beieinander liegen, wird es anspruchsvoller, am letzten Tag alles rauszuholen. Doch gerade das müssen einige Teams einkalkulieren. Doch der Reihe nach.

TAAT führt das Feld an und lässt uns rätseln. Der erste Wurf ist hinter den letzten beiden zurückgeblieben und diese waren richtig stark. Damit zwingen sie SG (#2) und TSBT (#15) möglicherweise zu zwei weiteren starken Würfen. Taktisch ist es eine gute Ausgangsposition, die sich TAAT da erworfen hat. Für sie reicht ein weiterer starker Wurf, währenddessen SG und TSBT zweimal werfen und damit Kraft aus anderen Projekten abziehen müssen. SG muss den gestrigen Wurf zweimal bestätigen, um am Ende Silber oder Bronze in den Händen zu halten. Dies trifft auch auf TSBT zu, die es mit dem gestrigen Wurf selbst in der Hand haben, Silber zu gewinnen.

2ch ist weiter auf #3 zu finden, doch das wird sich mit dem nächsten Versuch ändern. Gestern wieder eine persönliche Bestweite, doch so richtig einschätzen lassen sich die Japaner nicht. Dies trifft auch auf LTT (#4) zu. Gestern waren sie sehr stark und es ist offen, ob sie dies noch zweimal bestätigen können oder wollen. Wenn ja, wird am Ende eine gute Platzierung in den Top10 rauskommen.

Noch auf #5 kann P3D mit dem nächsten Wurf bereits Gold einsacken. Es ist kaum anzunehmen, dass der Grüne Planet vor lauter Siegestrunkenheit leichtsinnig wird. Für BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#6) wird es noch weiter nach hinten gehen, wahrscheinlich Richtung Platz 12 oder 13. Dagegen hat [H] gestern klar gemacht, dass sie #7 halten wollen und vielleicht sogar noch etwas nach vorne schauen wollen. Ob sie dazu einen oder zwei Versuche brauchen, hängt von der Konkurrenz ab und wird sich erst nach dem nächsten Wurf entscheiden.

Auch für ISWT (#8) wird es eine Herausforderung, in die Top10 zu kommen, denn AF (#9) und RKN (#10) brauchen nur noch einen starken Wurf, um vorbei zu gehen. EVGA (#11) und Team China (#12) und die AMD Users (#13) werden sich darauf einstellen müssen, kräftig nach hinten geschoben zu werden. Dagegen wird es für CNT (#14) und TSBT (#15) noch kräftig nach vorne gehen. Während die Schotten um Silber werfen, ist dies für die Tschechen zu weit weg. Aber ein Platz in den Top7 dürfte drin sein. Auf #16 baut OCN von Wurf zu Wurf ab und ist schwer einzuschätzen. Zumindest wird man BOINC@Poland (#17) hinter sich halten.

BOINC.Italy (#18) wird wahrscheinlich noch einen Wurf riskieren und könnte mit zwei Würfen vielleicht auch OCN ärgern. Hinter den Italienern wird wohl BOINCstats (#19) ins Ziel gehen und auch für UBT (#20) ist eine Verbesserung in der Platzierung auszuschließen. Im Gegenteil. Einer der Gründe ist die Ukraine, die gestern zeigte, dass sie mehr will als #21. Allerdings droht von hinten auch noch Gefahr. Crystal Dream (#22) und Russia (#23) sind allerdings nicht gemeint. Beide werden nämlich Opfer werden von Chinese Dream (#24), Meisterkühler (#25) und LITOMYSL (#26). Das Trio wird wohl noch einen heftigen Hüpfer nach vorne machen, wobei die die Chinesen am meisten gutmachen werden. Am Ende wird auf #27 die Pfalz den Wettbewerb schließen.

Einmal oder zweimal, das ist die Frage, die sich den Teams stellt. Zwei Würfe kosten Kraft in anderen Disziplinen, können aber hier richtig Plätze bringen. Das abzuwägen, ist die große Herausforderung für die Teams. Letztlich läuft alles auf den Showdown am fünften Tag hinaus.

Querfeldein (Einstein@Home)
Ab durchs Gelände heißt es ab Heute. Und hier hat P3D einen Blitzstart hingelegt. Die anderen Teams können sich nicht mehr verlaufen, die Beschleunigungsspur ist selbst für Blinde zu sehen, äh, zu riechen. Dahinter wahrt TAAT die Chance auf den Gesamtsieg, außerdem haben sie in der letzten Stunde kräftig beschleunigt. Können sie den Grünen Planeten noch einholen?

Gut gestartet ist auch auch OCN (#3), doch es bleibt abzuwarten, ob das hält. Das wird sich auch bei BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#4) noch erweisen. Gefahr von hinten droht in Gestalt von [H] (#5), TSBT (#6) und SG (#7). Das Trio hat noch nicht alles gezeigt und muss nachlegen, um in der Gesamtwertung nicht zu viel zu verlieren. LTT (#8) und RKN (#9) liefern sich gerade einen heißen Infight, den CNT (#10) noch mit etwas Abstand beäugt. Die Tschechen werden sicher noch beschleunigen, #10 ist nicht standesgemäß. Dahinter kommt Chinese Dream (#11) unter Druck, AF (#12) scharrt schon kräftig mit den Füßen.

BOINC@Poland hat etwas abreißen lassen, kann aber #13 noch vor ISWT (#14) und EVGA (#15) sichern. Auch die Ukraine (#16) und BOINC.Italy (#17) können dem nicht folgen. Für ein Achtungszeichen sorgt gerade Crystal Dream (#18). Ein fulminanter Zwischenspurt in der letzten Stunde hat sie viele Plätze gewinnen lassen. Mal sehen, ob das nur ein kurzes One-Hit-Wunder bleibt oder mehr daraus wird. LITOMYSL ( #19), UBT (#20) und Team China (#21) könnten, wenn sie wollten, noch den Abstand nach vorne verringern. Dafür zu langsam unterwegs sind 2ch (#22), AMD Users (#23), BOINCstats (#24), Meisterkühler (#25) und Russia (#26). Am Ende des Feldes genießt Pfalz die Landschaft und #27, wahrscheinlich bei einem guten Tropfen.

Stadtlauf (PrimeGrid)
Beim Klassiker geht es langsam auf die Zielgerade, nur noch 37 Stunden. TAAT steht kurz vor dem Sieg, darf aber nicht zu stark nachlassen, denn TSBT (#2) hält den Druck aufrecht. Dagegen hat sich wohl P3D mit #3 abgefunden. Das können sie auch, denn SG scheint auf #4 keine Gefahr mehr zu sein. [H] hat die besten Karten auf #5 übers Ziel zu gehen, allerdings hat RKN den Turbo gezündet und sich auf #6 beschleunigt. Es bleibt abzuwarten, ob das reicht weiter auf #5 aufzuholen oder ob CNT (#7) zurückschlagen kann. Um #8 wird es wohl zwischen AF (#8), LTT (#9) und ISWT (#10) heiß her gehen. Derzeit ist LTT super unterwegs und eine Gefahr für die vor ihnen liegenden Teams, dagegen schwächelt die Wissenschaft derzeit.

Das könnte die Chance für 2ch (#11) oder OCN (#12) sein, um in die Top10 zu schlüpfen. Auch EVGA (#13), BOINC.Italy (#14) und BOINC@AUSTRALIA (#25) waren in den letzten 24h besser unterwegs als ISWT. Da die Abstände nicht zu groß sind, könnten wir hier einen spannenden Schlusstag erleben. UBT (#16) und die AMD Users (#17) scheinen ihre Platzierung nur zu verwalten. Von hinten kommt dabei auch kein Druck, LITOMYSL (#18) scheint zu hoffen, dass der Vorsprung auf die Pfalz (#19) groß genug ist. Eine sehr riskante Strategie.

Die Ukraine (#20) musste einen Platz abgeben und hofft, dass das Duell dahinter nicht schädlich für sie selbst ist. BOINCstats (#21) und BOINC@Poland (#22) schenken sich nichts und liefern sich ein Kopf-an-Kopf-Rennen, in das sich nun auch noch Crystal Dream (#23) einbringen will. Die Meisterkühler (#24) werden mit Team China (#25) um #24 kämpfen. Chinese Dream (#26) und Russia (#27) scheinen dafür zu weit weg.

Gesamtwertung
TAAT führt weiter den Pentathlon an und das wird sich wohl bis Freitag nicht ändern. Dann wird wohl P3D (#2) zumindest deutlich näher dran sein. Für SG, die derzeit #3 halten, könnte das der Tag sein, wo die Medaillenträume zerplatzen, denn TSBT (#4) wird dann wahrscheinlich kräftig Punkte beim Speer holen. Weiter super unterwegs sind LTT auf #5, [H] auf #6 und RKN auf #7. BOINC@AUSTRALIA findet sich derzeit auf #8 wieder, doch beim Speer und Querfeldein drohen deutliche Punktverluste, wovon AF (#9), ISWT (#10) und CNT (#11) profitieren werden. Dazu können die drei noch fleißig Punkte gut machen.

OCN (#12) profitiert vom super Start beim Querfeldein, es bleibt abzuwarten ob sie das halten können. Ansonsten steht 2ch (#13) bereit, um vorbeizuziehen. Dahinter tut sich bereits eine kleine Lücke auf, die sich aber noch schließen lässt. EVGA (#14), BOINC.Italy (#15), Ukraine (#16), AMD Users (#17) und BOINC@Poland (#18) trennen nicht sehr viele Punkte und das Ergebnis beim Speer wird noch einiges zusammen schieben. Crystal Dream (#19) und UBT (#20) bilden dahinter ein heißes Duo, genauso wie Team China (#21) und Chinese Dream (#22). LITOMYSL (#23) könnte das chinesische Stelldichein noch stören, mal sehen, ob sie das möchten. BOINCstats (#24) und die Meisterkühler (#25) könnten durchaus auch noch dazu stoßen, müssten dafür aber langsam aber sicher etwas mehr Gas geben. Die Pfalz ist wieder auf #26 gefallen, aber zumindest hält ein guter Stadtlauf Russia (#27) fern.

Statt Antworten immer neue Fragen:

- Ist TAAT beim Stadtlauf noch einzuholen?
- Schlägt SG beim Marathon zurück?
- Wird dieser Pentathlon am letzten Tag entschieden?
