Astropulse 4.12

Seti Beta Test.
Josh hat heute die Astropulse applikation 4.12 für Windows veröffentlich.

Nach dem ja schon vor einiger Zeit die app für Linux 64 und Linux x86 herauskam waren die Window user natürlich ungeduldig geworden.

Hab mir die natürlich gleich mal gesaugt und ein Paar WUs geladen.

Aber das ist wohl nichts für 56K user da eine Astropulse WU 8 MB hat.

Der RAM verbrauch ist ebenfalls höher als mit dem enhanced client bei mir belegt er 157K
pro core.

Wenn man einen Boinc client 5.8 oder neuer hat kann man auf der acount Seite den Speicherbedarf einstellen.

Wenn Interesse besteht kann ich gerne einzelheiten dazu in Erfahrung bringen, und hier posten.

Ja Ulli, kannst du genaueres dazu sagen, wie da Seti BETA oder Astropulse gerechnet bzw. eingerichtet wird.
Vor tagen habe ich ein paar S.BETA WU's gerechnet, von Astropulse war nichts zu sehen.
Genauso habe ich ab und zu WU's die mit dem KSWN Client abbrechen, sollte man den überhaupt für Seti.beta nutzen, oder ist es nur für SETi gedacht?

Wenn ihr eine alte appinfo.xml habt werdet ihr keine Astropulse WUs bekommen.

Dier Version 4.13 ist auch schon draußen.

Astropulse 4.14 ist erschienen, aber im Moment gibt es keine WUs.
Eric arbeitet gerade am splitter sollte aber bald wieder losgehen.

Die WUs fangen auch mit apxxxxxx an.

scheint nicht so einfach zu sein an die AP Wus zu kommen, habe das jetzt mal per app_info.xml erzwungen, im Moment noch no Work, mal sehen was passiert.

auch wenn die Geschwindigkeit ja noch zu wünschen übrig lässt, unter Windows.

Nein, seit 4.16 sind sie optimiert.

Meine erste hat ca 5 Stunden gebraucht.
Ist aber stark abhäging von der AR.

Der durschnitt liegt wohl so bei 22 Stunden.

Das ist etwas kompliztierter.
Es wurde ein neuer sheduler geschrieben, da Astropulse WUs nur an Maschienen verschickt werden die diese auch innerhalb der deadline bearbeiten können.
Die minimale konfiguration ist ein 1.6 GHZ Pentium der würde ca 10 Tage brauchen.
Der erste effekt war daß alle Macs keine Units mehr bekamen.
Also wurde der sheduler wieder entfernt.
Es wird an disem Problem gearbeitet.
Ich denke mal morgen nach dem outage sollte es soweit sein.

Ist aber ohne Gewähr.

Hier noch mal das Original von Matt Lebowsky im Technical Forum.

Astropulse release progress has been slowed by various things. Some necessary updates were made to the generic BOINC scheduler which we then employed on Monday. After that we found several weird problems including computers being refused work because their hardware was wrongly deemed inappropriate. At first this seemed like a "Mac only" problem but as far as I could tell some Macs were still able to get work. In any case, we ultimately fell back to the "old" scheduler this morning. This improved things according to some rough, immediate analysis. It is still unclear the complete set of scheduler problems, their causes, and their solutions. We'll chip away at that as Dave works his way through a large e-mail backlog.

Yesterday Dave, Jeff, and I had a "work stoppage" and went for a hardcore hike in the Desolation Wilderness (near Lake Tahoe) - something we've been talking about doing for way too long, as we are all avid hikers. We were joined by my wife and Daniel, a visiting BOINC developer from Spain. Since this is technical news, the technical details are thus: We took the Twin Bridges trailhead (at 6200') up to and beyond Horsetail Falls. This included some surprisingly dangerous boulder scrambling which sapped more energy than originally expected. Our plan to bag Ralston Peak (9200') was reduced to basic exploration up to (and ultimately into) Lake of the Woods (over 8000'). The boulder scrambling downward was even worse, but all knees/ankles survived intact. All told, about 7-8 miles of hiking/scrambling, almost 2000 vertical feet gained and lost, taking about 8 hours including lengthy breaks. I felt poorly acclimated, even though I easily conquered a similar hike in Yosemite (up to the top of Nevada Falls and back) six days earlier. Dave was acclimated but started the hike a bit exhausted as he did about 800 feet of rock climbing in upper Yosemite the previous day.
