Da es nicht so viele Einträge hier zu diesem Board gibt und ich mir um Ostern herum - nach langem Zögern - das Abit AX8 gekauft habe, werde ich mal einen Erfahrungsbericht dazu abgeben.
Ich habe mich für ein PCIe-System mit dem Athlon 64 entschlossen; aus unterschiedlichen Gründen, aber vor allem, weil die Grafikkarten deutlich billiger waren (ich habe mir eine Gigabyte 6600 mit passiver Kühlung dazu gekauft).
Der Lärm des Rechners war auch ein Argument für den Athlon und gerade den VIA KT890 Chipsatz, der ja im Gegensatz zum NForce 4 ohne Lüfter auskommt...
Dazu 1 GB RAM und der Rest meines alten Systems.
Ich war von Abits Verpackung und dem Material recht angetan. Alles lief auf Anhieb, das System ist völlig stabil und macht überhaupt keine Probleme. Alles ist schnell, leise und zuverlässig. So weit, so gut. Aber...
Nachdem durch VIA angekündigt war, dass die Dual-Core-Athlons auch funktionieren sollen, und ich meinen Rechner dadurch zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt aufrüsten wollte, habe ich das Board gekauft. (Mit PCIe und der Option einen Doppelkern-Prozessor nutzen zu können war ich guter Dinge)
Und jetzt? VIA sagt: "Es geht doch nicht!" und was sagt Abit? "Ja, aber das ist VIAs Schuld"
Im Grunde sagen sie es natürlich nicht mit diesen Worten, aber das ist die Essenz aus den eMails, die ich erhalten habe. Der "Supporter" von Abit hat allerdings was ganz tolles losgelassen: "Verkaufen Sie das Board lieber so schnell wie möglich bei eBay!"
Es ist interessant, dass Abit eigentlich hochgelobt wird; allerdings hatten sie dieses Jahr ja arge Probleme, überhaupt zu überleben...
Und VIA? Tja. Schon komisch, dass es jetzt auch Probleme mit den S-ATA-Platten gibt, nicht wahr?
Die Konsequenz: Nie wieder Abit, nie wider VIA.
Ach ja: Was ich noch interessanter finde ist, dass sich wirklich keine - aber gar keine - Zeitung oder Internetseite darüber aufgeregt hat! Mehr als eine kleine Newsmeldung gab es nirgends zu sehen...
Im Grunde ist das AX8 ein gutes Board, aber man kann es sich einfach nicht kaufen. Es wird eine Revision 2.0 geben (laut Abit). Vielleicht bringt die es dann... Nur habe ich nix davon.

Ich hatte das Board in der Rev. 2 auch mal mit einem San Diego 3700+ E4 verbaut.
Lief einwandfrei und ohne irgendwelche Startschwierigkeiten.
Aber wenn man schon 1,5 GB Speicher verbaut........
Das Board ist dank passiver Northbridge-Kühlung und guter Lüftersteuerung für Silent-PCs geeignet. Auch OC-Versuche waren Abit-typisch von Erfolg gekrönt.
Die Beschränkungen durch den Via-Chipsatz sind ärgerlich, aber wohl kaum Abit anzulasten. Das traf alle anderen Hersteller genauso. Hat letztlich zur Abwendung von Via geführt bzw. Via in den absoluten Lowend-Markt abgedrängt.
Als Gebrauchtware kann ich das AX8 jedenfalls zumindest in der Rev. 2 (X2 möglich) empfehlen.

Dagegen spricht, dass Du 1,5 GB kaum in einer Dual-Channel Konfiguration installiert haben kannst. Alles andere macht sowieso keinen Sinn.
Wenn Dein Speicher ansonsten inkompatibel war, hättest Du wenigstens schreiben können, welcher nicht passt. Dann hätten andere eventuell etwas davon gehabt.
Hast Du das Board überhaupt irgendwie zum Laufen bekommen oder war es eventuell ganz einfach defekt ?
Eventuell passte ja auch die Graka nicht oder das Netzteil war inadequat.
