News AMD plant Athlon II Prozessor für den FM2 Sockel mit freiem Multiplikator

Nun wurden durch die CPU-Support-Liste von bereits gelisteten Mainboards (siehe unsere <a href="http://www.planet3dnow.de/cgi-bin/newspub/viewnews.cgi?id=1348063002">frühere Meldung</a>) auch einige Modelle bekannt. Demnach wird es drei Athlon II Modelle geben, wobei das Spitzenmodell 750K auch über einen freien Multiplikator verfügen wird. Anwender, die sich gerade nach einem günstigen und modernen Untersatz für Quad-Core-Prozessoren umschauen, könnten demnach auf Ihre Kosten kommen.

Dass AMD die freiwerdende TDP der deaktivierten GPU nicht für mehr Takt nutzt, scheint mir "politisch motiviert" zu sein, weil sie lieber APUs verkaufen. Schade, das könnte einige Käufer abhalten, die ganz sicher eine Grafikkarte verbauen wollen.

Könnte sein, könnte aber auch sein, dass die Turbotakte dafür besser ausfallen, die sind leider noch nicht bekannt und mittlerweile hängt der Turbo-Takt ja auch vom aktuellen GPU-Stromverbrauch ab. Wenn der also konstant bei 0 liegt, sollten da größerer Sprünge möglich sein. Aber warten wirs mal ab.

Hmm was mich Wundert ist die Bezeichung, gibt doch keinen Sinn die Dinger Ahtlon 2 zu nennen, wenn dann wären dass Ahtlon 3, die werden doch garnicht mehr in 45nm Gebaut und sind wohl Trinitys mit defekter GPU oder nicht?

Ich finde das auch merkwürdig - vor allem da ein A-10 mit 3,4 GHz bei 65W TDP liegt inkl. HD 7660D, während ein gleich getakteter Athlon X4 100W TDP ohne GPU haben soll. Wo macht das denn Sinn im Portfolio? Nur wegen dem offenen Multi?

Also ich verstehe die Intention von AMD, teildefekte APUs bei denen die GPU nicht wirklich funzt als AthlonII X4 zu verkaufen durchaus.

Allerdings verstehe ich nicht, wer sich das kaufen soll. Wenn ich mir schon ein Sockel FM2 Board zulege, dann doch, weil ich es gerade auf die APU mit funktionierender GPU abgesehen habe.

Andernfalls könnte ich mir auch einfach ein Sockel AM3+ Board mit einer FX CPU kaufen, die dann sicherlich auch mehr Performance bietet.

Da muss AMD also schon ordentlich über den Preis kommen, damit das überhaupt irgendwie attraktiv wird.

Na ja gut, der Ausschuss muss auch irgendwie verkauft werden.

Was mich wundert das sie gleich drei Athlons anbieten. 730 und 740 mit der selben TDP und fast gleicher Taktung. Würde doch einer mit 3GHz + X reichen.

Als Bezeichnung wäre vll auch "FX 3xxx" gegangen da er ja zum "FX 4xxx" keinen L3 hat.

Bin gespannt wo sich die Dinger in den Tests einordnen.

Den 730 können sie sich wirklich sparen. Alles unter 3 GHz ist bei der Bulldozerarchitektur Bullshit im Desktopsegement.

Der 730 wird nur dafür sorgen, dass der wesentlich interessantere 740 nicht auf ein passendes Preisniveau sinken kann und damit ebenfalls uninteressant wird.

Das "X4" hinter dem Athlon sollten sie sich auch mindestens bis zum Steamroller mit dedizierten Decodern für jeden Intercluster aufsparen. Bulldozer/Pilledriver ist kein X4!

Die Desktop Varianten von Trinity und Liano haben mindestens 65 W TDP, imho wird von AMD dort ein erhebliches Marktsegment (Desktop APU < 65Watt) nicht bedient.

Da kommt mir die Vermutung es gibt für Mobile und Desktop Versionen nur eine Maske, und die "gut" getesteten werden Mobile die anderen Desktop Varianten.

Hat da Jemand Informationen zu, ob meine Vermutung stimmt oder falsch ist?

Womöglich ist diese Möglichkeit (technisch) gar nicht vorgesehen, obwohl es natürlich helfen könnte die Ausbeute weiter zu steigern.

Ach, soo dumm ist das gar nicht, die Platform ist halt moderner und man kann hoffentlich auch später noch die CPU aufrüsten. So hat der mysteriöse Anwender *suspect*

Verarschung ist es einen zwei Moduler mit Core Multithreading als Quadcore anzupreisen und das auch noch im Namen eines früheren, vollwertigen Quadcores, nämlich dem Athlon II X4

Mit den dedizierten Decodern pro Integercluster beim Steamroller werden die einzelnen Intergerclustern mehr zu tatsächlichen Kernen, weil eben mehr als nur zwei Pipelines pro Thread dediziert zugewiesen wird (während alles andere geshared ist), nämlich zusätzlich noch die Decoder, womit der Steamroller schon näher einem tatsächlichen Quadcore kommt, so das man dann auch eher so ein X4-Namen vergeben könnte. Aber bei aktueller Architektur ist ein X4 auf keinen Fall gerechtfertigt. Zumal der Kunde ja darauf getrimmt ist auf den Markennamen, den Takt und Cache zu schauen. Wenn jemand weiß, dass ein Athlon II X4 mit 2,8 GHz schon so in Ordnung ist, dann wird er mit dem Piledriver eben weniger Leistung bekommen, als mit dem Athlon II X4 auf der K10-Architektur (bei gleichem Takt) aufgrund der schlechteren IPC pro Thread, die eben aus der Modulbauweise, den schlanken Integerclustern und den geteilten Resourcen resuliert...

Moment mal, die LEistung die du im endeffekt damit herausbekommst hat nichts damit zu tun wieviel threads der Prozessor verarbeiten kann!
Ein ATOM hat auch Hyperthreading und ist dennnoch keine Rakete. Soll Intel doch X4 auf den Core i3 schreiben, mit egal, 4 CPU-Diagramme im Taskmanager, ob das 4 kerne, 4 cluster, 4 Threads oder 4 Heinzelmännchen mit Taschenrechner sind ändert nichts an der 4-fachen parallelizität, nichts anderes sagt X4 aus.
Wenn der eine DEcoder so fett überdimensioniert wäre dass er mehr durchsatz liefern würde als die Steamrollerschen decoder oder die im K10 im doppelpack, wäre das X4 dann besser gerechtfertigt?
Ich bin auch nicht ganz glücklich mit der X4-Klassifizierung, aber die leidige Diskussion ab wann ein Kern ein Kern ist, bringt schlicht und einfach nichts.
Deswegen plädiere ich schon lange dafür bestenfalls die PArallelen threads draufzuschreiben - ob die von echten oder falschen Kernen verarbeitet werden, kann mir als Kunde mal ganz wurscht sein.
Wenns nach mir ginge sollten die CPU-Hersteller sich auf ein einziges Performancerating einigen und gar keinen Takt und/oder Kernzahl mehr draufschreiben, sondern es gäbe dann schlicht und einfach verschiedene Klassifizierungen von CPU.
Wenn man das entsprechend auslegt wäre das der einzige halbwegs vergleichbare und einleuchtende Weg zum CPU vergleich. Spätestens seit den Modulen ist der Kernbegriff nicht mehr eindeutig.

Es ist nirgendwo eindeutig definiert abwann man von Kern reden darf und ab welchem Shared-Bauteil keine separaten Kerne mehr vorliegen. Ein Modul ist weder ein SMT-Kern im klassichen Sinn noch ein echter Dualcore... aber es ist das Privileg des MArketings die Dinge bestmöglich darzustellen. Deswegen wäscht Persil auch in x.Generation noch weißer als weiß. *noahnung*

Deswegen hat von uns aber noch lange keiner das Recht zu definieren wann man 4-Kerner sagen darf und wann nicht.

Deswegen heißt er ja auch Atom und nicht Core 2 Quad. AMD nennt das Ding ja Athlon II. Dann sollen sie eben das X4 weglassen, denn in Benchmarks verhällt sich die Bulldozerarchitektur mit zwei Modulen eher wie ein X3.

mit Athlon II X4 wird von jedem, den du aktuell fragst ein vollwertiger Quadcore gleichgesetzt und genau das sagt "X4" dann aus. Auch ein Core i3 mit Vier Threads und ein Core i5 mit Vier Threads beides als Core X4 zu vermarkten wäre Kundenverwirrung denn der letztere wäre schneller, trotz gleicher Threads....

Genau, deswegen hab ich auch nicht gefordert, dass AMD den Zwei-Modul-Piledriver als Athlon II X3 oder X2 verkauft, sondern einfach das X4 weglässt um die Leute nicht zu Verwirren/Veraschen und solch Leidige Diskussion zu unterbinden. Beim Phenom der ersten Generation vor dem Fix des Bugs wurde das X4 bis X2 auch weggelassen, warum also nicht jetzt auch?
Es ist eben eine schlechte Entscheidung, die AMD da getroffen hat, wenn die Namen in der Form bereits feststehen und nicht bloß ein Vertipper ist, oder noch nicht final sind.

Dann müstest du im Prinzip meiner Meinung sein, dass das X4 nicht auf die Packung gehört, den mit X4 beim Athlon-Markennamen verbinden der Kunde bereits einen echten Quadcore.

Der Bulldozer-zwei-Moduler mit CMT und der Core i3 mit SMT, verhalten sich beide wie ein klassischer Tricore bisheriger Generationen. Das ist die beste Aussage, die man machen kann. Deswegen wandern entsprechende CPUs auch in Rankings in gleichen Tabellen. siehe z.B.:

Meine Argumentation beinhaltet bereits die Infos, dass der Steamroller weiterhin einen L1-Cache haben wird, dedizierte Decoder haben wird und das Front-End weiter optimiert wird. Meine Argumentation beinhaltet bereits die Tatsache, dass ein Steamroller bei gleichem Takt mit zwei Modulen bei Software mit mindestens vier Threads näher am Athlon II X4 landen wird, als die Bulldozer oder die Piledriver.

siehe Intel, wenn sie ihren Dual-Core aufgrund von SMT nicht mehr Dual-Core nennen wollen, nennen sie ihn eben nicht Core 3 Duo, machen daraus aber auch nicht einen Core 3 Quad, sondern nennen ihn einfach Core i3. Genau so könnte AMD einfach auf X4 verzichten. Ist wirklich nicht schwer, diese Logig nachzuvollziehen und diese Lösung anzunehmen.

Noch mal. Ich habe nicht gefordert, dass AMD das ganze als Athlon II X2 oder X3 verkauft. Ich habe lediglich darauf hingewiesen, das AMD auf X4 verzichten sollte um Verwirrung beim Kunden zu vermeiden, den ein X4 im Sinne dessen, was sich der Kunde vorstellt, ist es nicht!

Entweder es funktioniert oder der Kunde lässt das Produkt im Regal liegen - Beweisführung beendet und Job behalten oder gefeuert worden.

Die Kerndiskussion ist wirklich unsinnig. Genausogut kann man nen Mexikaner und nen Finnen darüber streiten lassen, ob +15°C nun warm oder kalt ist. Das ist Ansichts- und Gewöhnungssache. AMD (bzw. deren Marketing) war der Meinung, dass dezidierte INT-Pipes dafür reichen das Ding "Kern" zu nennen und gut isses. Jedem Privatmann steht dazu seine eigene Meinung zu, wir leben ja in nem freien Land.

Intel hat auch Core i7 mit 4 und 6 Kernen. Der Unterschied ist, dass das i3- bis i7-Suffix bei Intel noch nie mit Kernzahl gleichgesetzt wurde im Gegensatz zu X2 bis X6 bei AMD.

Eine "Diskussion" hab ich nicht angefangen. Ich hab lediglich meine Meinung geäußert, die jemand anderem nicht gefiel, bzw. die jemand anderer auch teilweise nicht richtig verstanden hatte, so dass ich da auch noch paar Dinge richtig stellen musste, wie mein Standpunkt dazu war und warum genau ich den Standpunkt habe.

Und zuletzt. Es ist keine "Kerndiskussion" entstanden. Es ist eine Diskussion darüber, wie AMD hätte geschickter vorgehen müssen bei der Namensgebung ohne zu viel Verwirrung zu stiften. Was daran unsinnig ist, musst du mir dann erklären. Oder ist es Unsinnig, weil sich AMDs Marketing das hier nicht durchliest? Dann sind aber viele Diskussionen auch über mögliche Verbesserung der Produkte von AMD hier auf der Seite unsinnig. Also den Unsinnigschuhe kannst du dir dann auch gleich selbst anziehen.

Allerdings verstehe ich nicht, wer sich das kaufen soll. Wenn ich mir schon ein Sockel FM2 Board zulege, dann doch, weil ich es gerade auf die APU mit funktionierender GPU abgesehen habe.

Aus einem einfachen Grund. Schau dir doch mal die Athlon II x4 auf FM1 Basis an.
Diese sind auch relativ günstig, und ein 50 euro FM1 Board bietet USBIII und 6 sata III Anschlüsse.
Weiteres hat FM2 den Vorteil, dass Athlon II auf Kaveri Basis ebenso auf FM2 lauffähig sein werden.
Somit hat man um wenig Geld, einen Chip denn man OC kann, und hat nächstes Jahr die Möglichkeit einen 2 Moduler auf Steamroller Basis zu kaufen.

naja ich bin gespannt wie gut sich die Chips OC lassen. Immerhin hat man beim Toms Hardware test ja schon 4,5 ghz geschafft.

Was den Namen Athlon II angeht... Naja bin der Meinung sie sollten die Chips einfach AthlonX nennen (anspielung auf FX und Athlon XP). Eventuell ein anderes Kürzel. Denn Llano selber war ja schon mehr mit Phenom II zu vergleichen als mit dem Athlon II.

Hoffe nur dass es dieses mal mehr Boards ohne Grafikausgang geben wird (dafür andere Anschlüsse oder etwas günstiger)

Ajo den niedrigen Takt würde ich damit begründen, weil man die AM3+ und FX 4XXX nicht madig machen möchte. Jemand der nicht OC, wird somit eher zum FX 4xxx greifen. Jemand der eventuell günstig wegkommen möchte eben zur FM2 Linie.

Dann sollen sie eben das X4 weglassen, denn in Benchmarks verhällt sich die Bulldozerarchitektur mit zwei Modulen eher wie ein X3.

Es klingt eher danach, sodass es darauf ankommt, welche Programme man verwendet. Wenn die Programme also CPU-Lastig sind, dann kann sich Trinity von llano absetzen. Eben bei den FPU lastigen Szenarien hat man dann eher einen Dual Core oder whatever.
Wobei mann muss bedenken dass viele Befehle, besonders was die FPU angeht noch nicht in Programmen Verwendung findet, somit es in Zukunft 2 module vs 4 cores mit fpu die Unterschiede verschwinden können.
Weiteres verwischt eventuell Steamroller in Zukunft weiter die Unterschiede.

Die Diskussion ist unsinnig, da sie schon 5000x vor ca. einem Jahr in allen möglichen Foren in zig Sprachen geführt wurde. Mir wärs auch lieber wenn die "Kerne" INT-Cluster hießen, tuts aber nicht und nach mehr als nem Jahr sollte man sich daran gewöhnt haben und nicht den Kampf gegen Windmühlen fortführen. Wenn ich mich recht erinnere dann ist die Modul/Kernsache sogar noch älter, da sie ja schon Ende 2010 / Anfang 2011 irgendwo präsentiert wurde. Finde Dich doch einfach damit ab, ändern kannst Du daran genauso wenig wie ich.
